Charting The Big Green, Part Two

Part two of our annual BGA look at the Dartmouth roster to see what players have moved on from last fall, who is returning this season and what freshmen are arriving later this month. Important note: The chart below detailing the defense is entirely based on the 2023 Big Green roster posted on the official program website and is certainly subject to change. Yedterday's post was about the offense and tomorrow's will detail special teams.

247Sports has a countdown of the impact players on the Colorado roster this fall and coming in at No. 5 is a fellow listed above in the "departed" category. From the piece, which lists where the three commentators had Cokes listed on their ballots (LINK):

5.) DL SHANE COKES

Voting Results - Adam Munsterteiger: No. 8, William Gardner: No. 4, Brian Howell: No. 5

One of the stars of spring ball in Boulder, Cokes quickly established himself as Colorado's top defensive lineman and the leader of the group. He wore No. 0 while racking up eight-and-a-half sacks during his time at Dartmouth and is now set to wear No. 99 for the Buffaloes. Cokes appears to have a similar skill set to that of former Buff defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson.

Jake Novak's Roar Lions blog is taking a look at retiring Columbia coach Al Bagnoli and the first installment lists five things to keep in mind HERE. The additional note by one of the commenters on Jake's post puts things in perspective beyond Bags' 35-35 overall record with the Lions:

(F)ocus on his record in the Ivy League over those seven years. He won 20 games. It took from 1974 until 1994 for Columbia to win 20 games in the league.

And there is this from Craig Haley:

It was nice to see this from Sammy McCorkle, Dartmouth's interim head coach:

EXTRA POINT
Well, we made it up Mount Washington on the legendary Cog Railway yesterday. Do yourself a favor it you are going and check the weather forecast first. Our window of opportunity was small, so we didn't have a choice, but it was totally socked in at the top. Some nice views on the way up but that was it before we were in the clouds. The temperature was in the low 40s at the top and with a brisk wind they said it felt more like it was in the 30s and who am I to disagree? Brrr.

We cruised the beautiful Kancamagus Highway on the way back and, as noted here before, absolutely recommend that gorgeous drive for visitors this fall. We capped the day with "Pizza Night" at the farm and then S'mores at our fire pit as the stars came out on a clear night. I'd have to say we did a pretty good job squeezing the orange these past four-plus days. ;-)
