Of Lehigh And Dartmouth

Last night's BGA Premium story on new Dartmouth secondary coach Aashon Larkins was a reminder that there's not much Lehigh folks enjoy nearly as much as beating Lafayette. The author of a College Sports Journal story headlined Lehigh Football: Getting To Know Your 2023 Non-Conference Opponents; There’s no easy win penciled in here, as you will see has another opponent in his personal crosshairs. Chuck Burton writes (LINK):

I’m not wishing for a 2-9 season, but if it is, and the wins are over Dartmouth and Lafayette, I will be more than happy.

The rest of the story is that the writer's father, sister, and brother-in-law all went to Dartmouth and he wants family "bragging rights" with the first win over the Big Green in a quarter century.

ESPN+ has projections for the final rosters of every NFL team and it has the Dartmouth trio of Jake Guidone (Ravens), Matt Kaskey (Chargers) and Niko Lalos (Saints) all getting bad news from The Turk. Time will tell if that's how it works out.

The same projections have former Dartmouth wide receiver targets Jake Bobo making the Seahawks roster and Andrei Iosivas sticking with the Bengals. Both players caught TD passes yesterday in preseason play.

#

Speaking of Iosivas, not that we've forgotten, but a Bengals.com story reminds us Dartmouth had a shot at him. From the story (LINK):

Go back to the end of his senior football season at The Punahou School in Honolulu.

"It's not the way I wanted it to go. I had two offers," Iosivas says of the openings at Princeton and Dartmouth. "No Pac 12. No nothing. I was wondering, doubting … Maybe I'm not as good at football as I thought.

"But I'm here now. And with everything I accomplished, that was the perfect route for me."

A story in a University of Delaware school paper suggests that yet another Dartmouth grad transfer has settled in nicely at his new school. From the story (LINK):

(T)he Blue Hens remade their CB room via the additions of grad transfer Tyron Herring (Dartmouth College) and sophomore transfer A’Khoury Lyde (Wisconsin). Herring and Lyde appear primed to start at two corner spots.

A story headlined, US Congress Launches Historic Stadium Caucus to Protect America’s Most Treasured Stadiums references these facilities, listed in alphabetical order (LINK):

Beaver Stadium (Penn State University, State College, Pennsylvania),

Camp Randall Stadium (University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin),

Cotton Bowl (Dallas, Texas),

Davis Wade Stadium (Mississippi State University, Starkville, Mississippi),

Franklin Field (University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania),

Husky Stadium (University of Washington, Seattle, Washington),

Jordan-Hare Stadium (Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama),

Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California),

Memorial Stadium (University of California, Berkeley, California),

Memorial Stadium (University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois),

Memorial Stadium (Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina),

Nippert Stadium (University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio),

Rose Bowl Stadium (Pasadena, California),

SJSU Spartan Stadium (San Jose State University, San Jose, California),

Tiger Stadium (Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana),

Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field (University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi),

Wallace Wade Stadium (Duke University, Durham, North Carolina), and

Yale Bowl (Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut).

Green Alert Take I: How in the world Franklin Field and Yale Bowl can be included but not Harvard Stadium was hard to understand until Inoticed the fine print. It says, "At the launch, eighteen of the most iconic college football venues are committed to participating in the Historic Stadium Caucus." The assumption is that Harvard hasn't yet "committed to participating," because otherwise is has to be on that list.

Green Alert Take II: It's no secret that I have a soft spot for Penn State and I love Beaver Stadium. But to be perfectly honest, it is frequently and rightly referred to as a 107,000-seat erector set. It simply doesn't belong in the same sentence as historic venues like Franklin Field, Yale Bowl or the Rose Bowl.

EXTRA POINT

Those who have been following along have read in this space about That Certain Dartmouth '14 finishing strong in trail races covering 50 miles, 45-plus miles, 40 miles and more over altitudes of more than 10,000 feet. She credits heavily cushioned HOKA sneakers for helping keep her feet as comfortable as they can be over those kind of distances.

I found myself thinking about that yesterday when I was walking behind a super-senior citizen and noticed HOKA printed on the side of her orange footwear. A little Googling revealed that HOKA's are recommended by the American Podiatric Medical Association to "promote foot health." I know they certainly get TCD'14's seal of approval.
