EXTRA POINT

Ever since Mrs. BGA and I had our wedding reception on a boat in Boston Harbor we've tried to celebrate our anniversary with a dinner on the water. Our actual anniversary was yesterday, but given yet another day of off-and-one heavy rain we decided to postpone for a day.

That being the case, we're headed to Lake Winnipesaukee in a few hours to spend a little time on the beach and then have our anniversary dinner overlooking the lake.

Per Google maps the distance from here to the lake is 78.7 miles.

Now, there's a difference between living in rural Northern New England and, say, New Jersey, when it comes to getting places. Hop on the Garden State Parkway, comfortably drive 70 mph and in an hour you can almost smell dinner on the table.

In these parts? Per Google that drive over back roads to our anniversary dinner will take us . . . wait for it . . . two hours and two minutes.
