Missed this yesterday but Dartmouth grad Noah Roper carried 13 times for 62 yards with a three-yard touchdown run and had two catches for 19 yards including a 12-yard TD grab while helping his home-state Colorado School of Mines post a 31-28 win over Grand Valley State Thursday night in a huge DII game. Mines, which won on a 41-yard field goal with two seconds remaining, is ranked No. 2 in the nation and Grand Valley is No. 3.

Of Dartmouth it says this:
“Do it for Buddy” will be Big Green’s battle cry this season. Dartmouth will be highly motivated to play for Coach Buddy Teevens who was injured in a bicycle accident earlier this off-season. Interim Coach Sammy McCorkle has the experience and talent at his disposal to lead this program to a bounce back season.
BGA Daily yesterday had the subbed "Playing for Buddy," in its regional preview.

Fordham is naming its football stadium after Joe Moglia, who coached at Dartmouth on the defensive side under Joe Yukica from 1981-83 before making his fortune in business as CEO of TD Ameritrade and then returning to the game as head coach at Coastal Carolina. Find a story HERE.

Dartmouth football players and coaches took advantage of a recent day off from practice to have a little R&R at Storrs Pond Recreation Area in Hanover. Cade Bettinger, who pulls together photos, videos and graphics for the program, shared some pictures from the afternoon and you can check them out in a slide show HERE.

EXTRA POINT
A few years ago after a spectator leaving a college basketball arena in a major northeastern city was shot, I joked that the only way a fan leaving Dartmouth's Berry Center after a basketball game would be shot would be if he or she got between a hunter and a moose.
I found myself thinking about that last night when my email delivered this "Breaking News" from The Dartmouth:
Safety and Security urge students to avoid 37 Dewey Ferry Road after a suspicious object was found at the parking lot.
A followup from The Dartmouth said:
Department of Safety and Security director Keysi Montás wrote in a campus-wide email that the object appears to resemble “a closed pressure/rice cooker.” Students should “avoid this area,” according to Montás. In addition, Montás wrote that the state bomb unit from Concord, N.H., would head towards campus “as a precaution.”
Yikes. From a story in the Valley News (LINK):
After police and fire personnel evaluated the situation, nearby buildings were evacuated and the New Hampshire State Police Explosives Disposal Unit was notified.
Scary, huh And now the kicker from the VN story (italics are mine):
The bomb unit arrived on scene at about 5:15 PM and x-rayed the pressure cooker, which was determined to contain food.
Hope the Explosives Disposal Unit was hungry ;-)
