The weekend wrap . . .
Rhode Island 34, Brown 30
Big plays made the difference as the No. 25 Rams had a 50-yard passing touchdown, a 50-yard rushing touchdown and a 95-yard kickoff return while winning in front of 4,124 in Providence. They also had two 27-yard scoring passes. Believe it or not, Rhode Island (4-2) managed to score five touchdowns without running a single play in the Brown red zone all afternoon. Wes Rockett caught seven passes for 90 yards and carried twice for 25 yards and a touchdown for the Bears.
Penn 42, Georgetown 39 (OT)
The Quakers let a 36-20 fourth-quarter lead slip away before winning in overtime one week after falling to Dartmouth in OT. The visiting Hoyas (3-3) used an 86-yard drive to tie the game with 1:22 left and then went up three points on a 49-yard field goal in the top half of the overtime. Penn (3-1) won the game on a six-yard Malachi Hosley run in the bottom half in front of 2,250 at Franklin Field. Aidan Sayin led Penn with 268 yards on 26-of-35 passing with one touchdown.
Columbia 16, Marist 0
The Lions (2-2) forced four turnovers and stopped the Red Foxes (2-3) four times in the red zone to record their second consecutive home shutout. Not since 1972 has Columbia had more than two shutouts in a season. Keying the win was a 222-34 advantage on the ground for the Lions, who got 103 yards and two touchdowns from Ty’son Edwards.
Lafayette 12, Princeton 9
The Leopards (5-1) held Princeton (2-2) to three yards rushing as they ended a 12-game losing streak in the series before 4,059 in New Jersey. Blake Stenstrom completed 26-of-35 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown for the Tigers, who took a 9-3 lead after one quarter but could not score again. Princeton’s best chance came in the third quarter when it had a first down at the Lafayette 12 only to lose a fumble on third down.
Fordham 38, Lehigh 35
The Mountain Hawks (1-5) led by 11 points in the fourth quarter only to see the Rams tie the game on a 42-yard field goal with 1:54 left and then win it with a 45-yard field goal on the final play of the game. Fordham’s (4-2) winning drive started at its own 11 with 52 seconds remaining. No attendance was listed for the dedication game of Joe Moglia Field.
And again from Friday night:
Harvard 41, Cornell 23
It was the Charles DePrima show as the Crimson's quarterback showed sprinter's speed running for touchdowns of 58 yards, 42 yards and one yard on his way to 152 rushing yards in just nine carries, an average of 16.9 per. He also tossed touchdown passes of 36, 19 and 17 yards. He was 12-of-19 for 209 yards through the air. With the victory Harvard coach Tim Murphy tied Yale legend Carm Cozza with his 135th victory in conference play. Murphy's career record in Ivy League games is 135-63. Cozza was 135-84-5. A crowd of 10,050 turned out at Harvard Stadium.

EXTRA POINT
Mother Nature giveth and Mother Nature taketh away this fall. Whether it was the abundance of rain from spring through summer or the cooler-than-usual temperature, our apple trees are overflowing with fruit. But while the weather has been good for the apple trees, it has muted the usually eye-popping fall foliage in these parts. The bright reds have been replaced in large part by dull oranges and yellows. While I'm pretty sure pensioners on motor coach tours from Indiana and Ohio are gawking as they look down into nearby Quechee Gorge and shooting picture after picture as travel up legendary Route 100 to Stowe, they don't know what they are missing.
