How They Fared

 Week Five wrap:

Brown 28, Princeton 27 (ot)
Jake Willcox completed 38-of-60 passes for 378 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions as the Bears (3-2, 1-1 Ivy League) stunned the Tigers (2-3, 1-1 Ivy) before 5,690 in Providence.

Willcox hit Mark Mahoney for a 51-yard touchdown with 53 seconds left to force overtime. Princeton scored first in the extra session only to see Brown block the extra point. Graham Walker, who had broken up a Princeton Hail Mary on the final play of regulation, thencaught the game-tying, four-yard TD throw in overtime before the Bears sealed their first win over Princeton since 2015 with the extra point.

Penn 20, Columbia 17
The Quakers’ Graham Gottlieb kicked a 23-yard field goal with 3:04 remaining to snap a 17-all tie and give Penn the come-from-behind win in front of 8,032 at rainy Wien Stadium in New York City. Columbia led 17-10 entering the fourth quarter before Aidan Sayin found Bisi Owens for a seven-yard TD with 9:44 remaining to tie the score. The Lions got the ball two more times but cold not manage another first down.

Penn (4-1, 1-1 Ivy) was held to 72 yards rushing but Sayin completed 30-of-44 throws for 286 yards. Columbia (2-3, 0-2 Ivy) struggled again in the passing game with Caden Bell going 11-for-29 for 91 yards. The Lions managed just 180 yards of total offense.

Bucknell 21, Cornell 13
Coleman Bennett nearly matched his production through the first five games by rushing for 157 yards on 29 carries to help power the Bison (2-4, 0-2 Patriot) to their third consecutive win over the Big Red on rainy Schoellkopf Field. It’s the first time in the 135 years the teams have been playing that Bucknell has won three straight in the series.

Cornell (2-3, 1-1 Ivy) took a 13-7 lead early in the second half on a five-yard run by quarterback Jameson Wang, the Big Red’s only touchdown of the day. Bucknell answered with an 11-play 73-yard drive to go back ahead 14-13 with two minutes to play in the third quarter before closing out the scoring with a TD with 9:15 to play. The game drew 2,142.

Harvard 48, Howard 7
Sophomore Isaiah Abbey, who had 66 rushing yards in his career before Saturday, carried 16 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns as the Crimson. (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) stayed perfect. Quarterback Charles DePrima threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns on a day when Harvard piled up 341 yards on the ground.

Harvard led just 7-0 after one quarter but took control with a 21-point second period to lead 28-0 at the half. It was 48-0 before Howard (2-4, 0-0) finally got on the board with 3:36 left in the game. It’s the 10th time the Crimson has been unbeaten at the midway point of the season under coach Tim Murphy, now in his 30th season. The crowd at Harvard Stadium was 7,678.

Yale 31, Sacred Heart 3
Wide receiver Mason Tipton caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Nolan Grooms in a 7-0 Yale first quarter and ran 15-yards for a score in the second quarter to make it 14-0 as the Bulldogs. (3-1, 1-1 Ivy) cruised to a comfortable win over the in-state rival Pioneers (1-6, 1-3 NEC) before a rain-soaked crowd of 3,739 at Yale Bowl.

Sacred Heart had 20 first downs to Yale’s 12 and 344 yard of total offense to the Bulldogs’ 273 but could never reach the end zone. The best chance came when an errant snap on a Yale punt gave the Pioneers the ball at the seven-yard line but a fumble at the two gave the ball back to the home team. Yale then drove 98 yards for the day’s second touchdown and the rout was on.

New Hampshire 38, Albany 31
The Wildcats got back on track after losing back-to-back games by four points and three in overtime. Tailing 24-14 early in the third quarter, New Hampshire went on a 17-0 run to forge a 31-24 lead only to see the visitors tie the score early in the fourth quarter. Max Brosmer’s six-yard TD pass with 7:08 proved to be the winner before 8,346 at the New Hampshire Homecoming contest.

The game was an aerial showdown as Brosmer threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns while his counterpart from Albany passed for 373 yards with four scores. New Hampshire  improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the CAA while Albany dropped to 4-3, 2-1 in the CAA. Dylan Laube led the UNH ground game with 84 yards and one TD on 19 carries.

Georgetown 17, Lehigh 7
Trailing 7-0 at the half the Mountain Hawks (1-6 overall, 0-2 Patriot) tied the score on a 13-yard TD pass early in the third quarter but wouldn’t score again as the surprising Hoyas (4-3, 2-0 Patriot) took the lead on a 33-yard field goal late in the third quarter and added an insurance touchdown on a four-yard run late in the fourth.

Georgetown dented the Lehigh defense with 457 yards of total offense while limiting Mountain Hawks’ quarterback Brayten Silver to 11-for-34 passing and picking him off two times. The win was Georgetown’s first ever at Lehigh.
