Former Dartmouth running back Noah Roper '23 and top-ranked Colorado School of Mines (11-0) begin their quest today for the Division II national championship against No. 16 Augustana. From a story in the Denver Post that says, "The ultimate goal hasn’t changed for Colorado School of Mines football: national championship or bust" (LINK):

Roper, an Erie product, is a graduate transfer from Dartmouth and his 742 rushing yards this season already surpassed his career output in three seasons with the Big Green. ...

“I’ve been waiting for this kind of opportunity for my entire college career,” Roper said. “I was originally hoping to transfer to a Power 5 school, but didn’t get that chance. Mines was on my doorstep right away… and I saw what they did in the program last year. I knew I had a chance to come back home, be a part of something special and be close to my family.”

Thanks to a loyal reader who sent along a link to a "12 best specialists in (University of) Florida football history" story from last year. Want to guess who made the cut?

Yup, the Ivy League football coach of the year. From the story (LINK):

Now a college football coach, (Sammy) McCorkle was a player who took great pride in his role as the leader of the special teams. His four career blocked kicks are tied for second in UF history and he was a tackling machine on returns.

Back to the topic of graduate transfers from the Ivy League. This from a story about the University of Washington pursuing Penn defensive tackle Joey Slackman offers a peek at how the process works (LINK):

On Monday, the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder from Commack, New York, entered his name in the transfer portal and quickly began stacking up offers from schools such as BYU, Colorado, Duke, Illinois, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon State, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin, among others.

Following a conversation with UW director of player personnel Courtney Morgan, Huskies coach Kalen DeBoer placed a call to Slackman shortly before Midnight Eastern Standard Time to extend an offer, the 21st program to formally offer a scholarship to the transfer, who is on track to graduate from Penn in December and play his final year of college football elsewhere in 2024.

Harvard defensive tackle Thor Griffith , meanwhile, is targeting Ohio State or Michigan per a story behind the wall in The Athletic. (LINK

Green Alert Take: Griffith may have an "in" at Ohio State. Both he and Buckeyes' coach Ryan Day grew up in New Hampshire.
