USA Today has a vote going for the Best Small College Town and Hanover is currently sixth in the balloting, which continues until Wednesday, April 10. You can vote HERE.
The intro to the vote says the best small college towns . . .
. . . have fun, youthful vibes, unexpected dining and shopping options, and plenty of cultural offerings. Throw in a beautiful campus and some regional surprises and you have a recipe for a great vacation.
The latest "leaderboard" has 20 towns listed. Here's how the top half (and one) of the voting stacks up this morning, with just about three weeks left:
1. Oxford Ohio (Miami University)
2. Frostburg, Maryland (Frostburg State)
3. Granville, Oho (Denison)
4. Athens, Ohio (Ohio University)
5. Annapolis, Md. (Naval Academy)
6. Hanover, N.H. (Dartmouth)
7. Williamsburg, Va. (William & Mary)
8. Oxford, Miss. (Ole Miss)
9. Charlottesville, Va. (Virginia)
10. Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (Skidmore)
11. Ithaca, N.Y. (Cornell, Ithaca)
Green Alert Take: Sure seems as if the Ohio towns are turning this into an "us vs. them" competition.
Green Alert Take II: I'd have a hard time keeping Princeton, Burlington, Vt., and State College, Pa., off that list.

EXTRA POINT
When Mrs. BGA and I were in Hanover last week we were surprised to see purple crocuses (croci? ;-) blooming in the garden outside the Nugget Theater. I was more surprised yesterday as I was coming up our driveway after my hike to spy the first of our daffodils sprouting up a couple of inches. No sign yet of the couple dozen new bulbs we planted last fall.
With not only daffodils but some kind of hyacinth-like plant just beginning to push up in the garden I'm left with one wish. That would be getting a call soon with news that repairs on my electric lawn tractor are finished because Mother Nature is making me think the grass is going to be greening up and growing earlier than ever this spring.
On the other hand, we did wake up to a fresh covering of snow on our Vermont hillside this morning – so maybe we still have a little time.
