Your 5¢ Worth

Once more with feeling . . . a lightly edited transcript of a video produced for Dartmouth social media regarding the nickel position on the Big Green football team this fall. Today we see what nickels coach Joe Casetellitto, now in his second season with the Big Green, has to say. (BIO)

Nickels coach Joe Castellitto on his position group:
The way the nickel fits in our defense, he really has to be a Swiss Army knife. He's a guy who has to (defend) the run, he's a guy who's has to drop into pass (defense),who can
rush the passer.

We're looking for guys who are really comfortable in being in space and we're also looking for guys who are super physical too, especially at the point of attack. Because there's times we're in the box and you've got to be able to fit to the run and have got to be physical with offensive linemen. Whether it's tight ends, O-linemen, wide receivers, running backs, we pretty much face it all.

Tyson Grimm is super athletic but more so than anything he's really confident in his ability when it comes to understanding what we're doing in defense. He’s a guy who's made a lot of plays in this camp.

Another guy to name is Cam Best-Alson. He's a really long, strong guy. He's kind of that real safety hybrid. He played a little bit of corner last year but he's a physical guy who's willing to get into the box at any time.

It's really a plug and play position at the end of the day. (You can play him) at safety or put him at nickel. You can play him at corner or play him at nickel.

Still catching up a bit on the weekend past, former Dartmouth receiver/return specialist Jamal Cooney '23 had five kickoff returns for 78 yards and one reception for seven yards in Albany's loss at FBS West Virginia.

There's a familiar name in the news with 6-foot-3, 235-pound senior tight end Alex Geraci's younger – and bigger – brother getting this mention (LINK):

JT Geraci, a 6-foot-5 tight end out of New Jersey, just received his first ever division one offer. Geraci picked up an offer from Virginia Tech.

And . . .

He's visited countless schools, including Dartmouth, where his older brother, Alex Geraci, enters his senior season as a tight end.

And . . .

There's a long list of other prestigious programs he's visited as well: Michigan State, Michigan, Princeton, Monmouth, Rutgers, and Georgia . . .

Green Alert Take: The younger Geraci's Xwitter account shows him with a 4.0 GPA so there's hope. ;-)

This could be a very special foliage season in these parts. Don't take it from me. Check out this report.

Fingers crossed it peaks on a home football weekend. It could be Oct. 5 against Penn but more likely Oct. 19 against Central Connecticut.

EXTRA POINT
On Saturday this space shared a photo reminding us that the change of seasons is upon us. I got another one yesterday afternoon when Mrs. BGA, Griff the Wonder Dog and I hopped in the car for the five-minute drive to the trailhead for a hike up our nearby mountain.

We weren't two minutes up the road when I noticed something. For the first time since spring, the steering wheel on my car was warming up. So was my seat. A glance at the controls showed me both had come on automagically because the temperature was under a certain threshold.

I'm not sure what that threshold is, but I know the mercury pixels dropped into the 30's in the early morning over the weekend in these parts.

Now I've got to dig out the manual for my car and lower that threshold. This will be our fourth winter with our little EV so it's about time I get around to that.
