It's A Big Weekend

Click the football to visit BGA Overtime

Two stories are on tap in advance of Dartmouth's Ivy League opener. Be sure to check out BGA Overtime tonight for a preview of the Dartmouth-Penn game. Also going up on the site this evening: a look at a surprising oddity about the series between the Big Green and the Quakers.

This is from Dartmouth social media yesterday with the Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field Dedication slated for this evening:

We’re honoring Buddy Teevens ’79, his memory, and his legacy in a big way tomorrow evening.💚

A story in the local Valley News centers on the stadium dedication and finishes with a brief look at the Ivy League opener against Penn. Find the story HERE.

Dartmouth's game notes have gone up HERE.

With apologies in advance for editorializing, the Ivy League's less-than-overwhelming official look at this week's action can be found HERE.

Dartmouth is developing quite a history of sending tight ends to the FBS level as graduate transfers.

First it was Robbie Mangas '22 to Buffalo. Then it was Zion Carter '23 joining the same program. Winning plaudits as the starting tight end at Nevada this fall until being sidelined by injury was grad transfer Jace Henry '24.

Hoping to add to that tight end legacy is Nic Sani '24, the biggest of them all at 6-foot-6, 265 pounds. Sani could have returned to Dartmouth this fall by rearranging his academic schedule, but opted to instead graduate and use the year to heal up and weigh his opportunities.

Speaking of grad transfers – and transfers in general – with the "games-played" threshold for redshirting passing, former UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka is getting some company in the portal. Among those stepping away (abandoning?) their teams in midseason are UCF defensive back Bryon Threats, Indiana defensive back DJ Warnell and NC State's Red Hibbler. And surely there are others.

Green Alert Take: It was bad enough when your favorite FBS team had players enter the portal after the season. Now they are leaving during the season. It's scary to think what might be next.

EXTRA POINT
Jeezum crow, this surprised me.

Wait, what? I listened to a short Brave Little State podcast on Vermont Public during my hike yesterday and was surprised to learn that "jeezum crow," a saying I'm not sure I ever used but have heard quite a lot, has its origins in Vermont. And that it hasn't spread far beyond this state's borders. (LINK)

Not realizing that the saying is this localized was a reminder that although I wasn't born here, I've lived in these parts a long time. Long enough that I don't even raise an eyebrow when I hear someone say they can't wait to have a creemee or are from the kingdom. Or use words like door yard, flatlander and sugar bush.
