NFL Is A Business

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out BGA Overtime to learn a little more about the big fellow who addressed the Dartmouth football team earlier this week.

Pro football can be a cruel business.

Former Dartmouth corner Isaiah Johnson ’22 learned that the hard way after surviving the final round of cuts with the Miami Dolphins only to be waived yesterday when the NFL team claimed corner JuJu Brents off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. Find a mention of the moves HERE.

Green Alert Take: There’s a reason why yesterday’s BGA note about Johnson was worded the way it was. It read this way:

"The big news today is that barring a late move by the Miami Dolphins, former Dartmouth standout Isaiah Johnson '22 will be the first Big Green alum to suit up for an NFL opener since tight end Casey Cramer '04 with the Dolphins in 2008."

Stay tuned. The Isaiah Johnson story is still developing.

A quick search this morning revealed that the Green Bay Packers have announced their practice squad and former Dartmouth corner Tyron Herring, who was with the team until the final round of cuts, was not among the 13 players signed for their taxi squad.

The news side of Dartmouth PR has put out a piece under the headline, Athletics Builds Competitors Striving for Excellence in Life that includes this (LINK):

Central to (Athletic Director Mike) Harrity’s strategy is hiring, supporting, and retaining talented coach-educators who appreciate Dartmouth’s distinctions and mission.

The piece lauds Dartmouth for:

• Football’s second consecutive shared Ivy League title

• Men’s hockey’s first sole Ivy League title in 45 years

• Skiing’s undefeated Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association season and third-place finish in the NCAAs

• The equestrian team’s first national title

• Women’s rugby 7s Collegiate Rugby Association of America championship.

Green Alert Take: I’d have been tempted to slide men’s basketball earning a slot in the Ivy League tournament between the hockey and skiing notes.

EXTRA POINT

What is the saying? Whether the bug hits the windshield or the windshield hits the bug, it’s bad for the bug? Wherever EV chargeries had windshield cleaners on our Route 66 adventure I made sure to clean up the shmears. Not so much the front of the car, which took the brunt of the insect assault.

Yesterday I used some special foam cleaner and a lot of elbow grease to clean up the mess.
