On To Connecticut (Central Connecticut, Of Course)

Got soaked yesterday afternoon just going from my car to Dartmouth's indoor practice facility – The Green House – for a look at practice and a conversation with coach Sammy McCorkle. Stop by BGA Overtime tonight for a Central Connecticut preview, and again tomorrow night for a game story. And if you  missed, last night the OT had cheeky predictions for this week's games featuring Dartmouth opponents.

You asked for it, you got it. Yes, you can indeed watch a stream of the Dartmouth-Central Connecticut game. It's not on ESPN+ but rather on the Northeast Conference Front Row platform and here's the good news: It's FREE to watch! Click the graphic above at noon tomorrow to catch the action. From The Analyst (LINK):
Dartmouth at Central Connecticut State matches teams that earned a share of their conference titles last season. CCSU cornerback Chris Jean was just named NEC defensive player of week after sharing the award a week earlier. The super soph had two takeaways in both games, and it gives him an incredible 10 (seven interceptions, three fumble recoveries) in the Blue Devils’ last seven games since mid-November.

As a journalist I'm not supposed to cheer, so you'll have to excuse me for politely applauding a traditional uniform selection. Still above the knees, but what are you going to do?

Now if I could just get them to put numbers on their shoulders to more easily identify players in a mosh pit. -)

Jack Novak down at the Roar Lions blog/podcast, has made his predictions for this week's games. Here's one of interest to you (LINK):

Dartmouth is a 9½- point favorite. And I think Dartmouth will win and cover that spread. Dartmouth to me right now looks like the strongest team in the Ivies, at least for now.

From an FCS Central story headlined Top 10 FCS Prospects In The 2026 NFL Draft (September Update) LINK:

 3. Chris Corbo | TE | Dartmouth

Corbo did not drop a spot from his preseason rankings despite playing in just one game. The Ivy League did not begin play until Week 4, but he showed why he was a top FCS prospect in his first game against New Hampshire. He caught all of his five targets, totaling 40 receiving yards. The most impressive aspect of his game was his ability to block in space and in the box. His target share will grow, and as he continues to showcase his run-blocking ability, his stock will continue to climb.

Also of interest in the top 10:

9. Jaden Craig | QB | Harvard

8. Treyvhon Saunders | WR | Colgate

7. Jared Richardson | WR | Penn

The Asbury Park (NJ) News has written a piece about the sports legacy of Dartmouth quarterback commit Jack Cannon’s family. I'm not sure why, but the Texans Wire site is carrying the story under the headline: How a family, community and quarterback unite Holmdel’s past with a bright football future.

For someone interested mostly in getting a better feel for who Dartmouth is recruiting, it takes a long, long time to get to that point so I've done you a favor. I asked our friend ChatGPT to summarize that part in 200 or so words. Here's what the bot provided:

Jack Cannon, Holmdel High School’s senior quarterback, has become the face of a small-town program trying to make big waves. A dual-threat playmaker with both a strong arm and dynamic rushing ability, Cannon has powered the Hornets into the spotlight with signature performances, including a five-touchdown, 330-yard effort in a statement upset of powerhouse Rumson-Fair Haven. That victory ended a decades-long drought against Rumson and affirmed Holmdel’s place in the Shore Conference’s most competitive division.

Cannon’s rise is more than individual talent—it’s tied deeply to family and community. His father played at Holmdel, and his family has been part of the town’s sports fabric for years, fostering a sense of pride and tradition that drives Jack to succeed where he grew up. Rather than transfer to a private program, Cannon chose to stay and represent his hometown, determined to prove that blue-chip athletes can thrive in public schools. He sees himself not just as a quarterback, but as a mentor to younger players and a symbol of what commitment to community can achieve. With Dartmouth recruiting him, Cannon is crafting a brighter football future while honoring Holmdel’s past.

EXTRA POINT

That rain we so desperately needed came down in buckets last evening, so much so that the drive home from practice was a little scary with some hydroplaning on the interstate. The good new, of course, is we finally got some rain, although we need more.

I didn't pull my car into the garage last night but instead left it in the driveway to get a bath. Over the course of the day it went from being covered by dust, to the dust turning into a clay-like mud, to now being (somewhat) clean.
