Dartmouth holds its first "game week" practice of the season this afternoon, and BGA Overtime will have a report tonight. If you are a late arrival to this electronic precinct and are checking out the OT for the first time with the start of the season imminent, you have some catching up to do. There already have been 28 stories posted to the site since the start of practice. ;-)

As always, your help keeping BGA going and deferring some of the cost of road trips to places like Bethlehem, Pa., this week is always welcome over there to the right. Griff the Wonder Dog and I thank you!

Now here's your nonconference opponent roundup:

No. 8/9 Lehigh 44, No. 16 William & Mary 20
The Mountain Hawks (3-0) ran their regular-season winning streak to 20 games with a sound thumping of William & Mary (2-1) behind All-America tailback Luke Yoder's 23 carries for 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Lehigh jumped out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter and stretched the margin to 30-0 by the midway point of the second to win handily before 5,240 at Goodman Stadium.

Mountain Hawks' starting quarterback Hayden Johnson was 4-for-6  for 84 yards before leaving the game with an injury. He returned to action and reeled off a 50-yard touchdown run before leaving the gamer good. He was replaced by sophomore backup Derek Morgan, who completed 3-of-4 throws for 36 yards and a touchdown, and ran six times for 72 yards and a score.

Lehigh plays host to Dartmouth Saturday at noon. The Mountain Hawks' last regular-season loss was Oct. 19, 2024  when they fell at Yale, 38-23.

Merrimack 23, Maine 14
Merrimack limited Maine to 53 yards rushing, sub-50 percent passing and 199 total yards while scoring on a blocked punt return, a "pick six" interception, a safety and a TD from scrimmage. The victory was Merrimack's first ever against a CAA team.

The Warriors (1-2) next visit fourth-ranked Tarleton before helping open Dartmouth's home season on Sept. 26. Their game with Maine (1-2) drew a crowd of 5,065 to the Black Bears' Alfond Stadium.

Western Michigan 49, Monmmouth 14
The Hawks put up 431 yards of total offense to Western Michigan's 414, and 27 first downs to the home team's 24, but couldn't get the stops when they needed them as the Broncos made five trips into the red zone and came away with touchdowns on each one. A crowd of 24,605 turned out for the game in Kalamazoo one week after Western "beat" Michigan. (Or didn't, per the Big 10.) 

Frankie Weaver completed 28-of-46 throws for Monmouth (1-2) while Elijah Jennings ran for 87 yards and Kenny Smith for 69. Tra Neal caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Western MIchigan (1-1) led just 14-0 before ringing up 21 points over just a little more than the "middle eight" minutes spanning halftime.

In games featuring Dartmouth grad transfers, DJ Crowther had six carries for 39 yards and one pass reception to help South Florida upset Army at West Point, 28-24.

Quarterback Jackson Proctor '25 had five rushes for 54 yards and threw one incomplete passes as South Dakota improved to 3-0 with a 41-23 win over Eastern Washington.

Tight end Chris Corbo caught his first two passes of the season for 21 yards in Georgia Tech's 45-24 loss to Tennessee.

Zyion Freer-Brown had a team-high 10 tackles with a sack and a tackle for loss in The Citadel's 26-20 overtime loss to Charleston Southern. Through three games Freer-Brown has a team-high 28 tackles, 10 more than anyone else on the team.

EXTRA POINT
Mrs. BGA and I took advantage of a day off from Dartmouth football coverage last week to catch the movie Coyote vs. Acme. If you grew up watching Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes – of even if you didn't – I think you'll give this one a thumps up. If nothing else, it's interesting to see old friends like Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck and the inimitable Bugs Bunny interacting with live actors. And you have to love the ending. Meep meep ;-)
