The
Ithaca Journal preview of Saturday's Dartmouth-Cornell game includes this, which is kind of funny:
Outlook: When another team hangs 59 points on you, it seems like it would be pretty hard to forget. But that's precisely what Cornell coach Jim Knowles did, until one of the assistants brought it up in a meeting Tuesday.
“I had pretty much blacked it out,” Knowles said. “I blacked out a lot of things in my childhood and I blacked out that game last year, too. ... It was embarrassing and what a terrible six-hour bus ride (afterward). Believe me, we'll (have talked) about it this week.”
And indeed they have, as the
Cornell Sun notes:
“We are pretty much using the motivation of getting our butts kicked last year up there,” said sophomore defensive back Emani Fenton. “Anytime you give up 59 in one game you want to come back and really have a great showing. Our coaches have been using that as motivation.”
Wonder what the Cornell gameplan might be this week? Cornell running back Randy Barbour lets us know in the Sun:
“We’ve seen that (Dartmouth is) susceptible to the run game. We are looking to run first and then open up the pass. Hopefully, when we get in the red zone, I get couple of more touches and get a chance to produce then.”
There's not much new in the
Daily Dartmouth game preview, but it includes this truth:
The Big Green will have to play its best football if it intends to beat Cornell, but with the Big Red’s recent struggles, the game presents the perfect opportunity for Dartmouth to break out of its slump and notch its first win.
The
Daily Pennsylvanian agrees with The D, saying of Dartmouth:
... if it wants to get off the schnide and earn its first win of the year, tomorrow against Cornell might be its best chance.
The
Harvard Crimson picks Cornell to grab a 35-14 win and includes this wisecrack:
Does this game even need to be played? Has my campaign to revoke Dartmouth’s status as a legitimate football team been paid any attention?
Columbia blogger Jake Wilson's pick: Dartmouth
