QB Recruit Talks About Dartmouth

The local daily has a lengthy story on quarterback recruit Cole Marcoux that includes this quote from the 6-foot-5, 234-pound New Yorker:
"I don't think (coach Buddy Teevens) could have done a better job of recruiting me. He gave me space and let me make my own decision. He thinks Dartmouth is the best place for me and I do too, but I'd be a fool not to listen to what other coaches have to say."
The story also includes this from Marcoux' high school coach Gus Ornstein:
"As of now, he's completely sold on going to Dartmouth and a huge part of me thinks that's still the right choice for him, even if something else comes along. If someone throws you an offer now, what's their true intent, given how late we are in the process?

"You can't jump at any Division I offer, you have to analyze it and ask if it truly puts you in a better position. I'm really stressing that to him, because I think the situation he's walking into at Dartmouth is just awesome."
Said Teevens of the many reports that top-level programs might be interested in Marcoux:
"It's keeping me busy on the phone, but it's a nice problem to have. We still feel comfortable in the conversations we are having with him."
Marcoux made a campus visit and officially announced his intentions to Teevens on Oct. 24, the day the Big Green ended its long losing streak with a win over Columbia. The Fieldston School senior told the newspaper:
"I got to meet some of the guys and some alumni who were there for Homecoming and it was unbelievable how much Dartmouth meant to them. I thought, 'How could this not be the best place in the world for me to go to school?' "

Dartmouth's search for a new athletic director was supposed to culminate with the introduction of the successor to Josie Harper by July 1. Now it appears the search may not even begin until then. The Daily Dartmouth has the story. Harper announced her retirement one year ago this month and interim AD Bob Ceplikas assumed the corner office of Alumni Gym last July.

Mark Graupe has been named interim head coach of the Dartmouth men's basketball team. Graupe spent last year at Colorado State after serving seven years as head coach of Lake Region State College, a junior college in Devil's Lake, N.D. The Daily Dartmouth has a story here.

Graupe takes over for Terry Dunn, who stepped down last week. Doc Donohue, who worked on the staffs of previous Dartmouth coaches Paul Cormier and Dave Faucher, has been enlisted for the rest of the season to help Graupe, first-year assistant Michael Brown and first-year assistant Tim Lane acclimate to the rigors of Ivy League weekends.

The Daily Princetonian has another story about new Princeton football coach Bob Surace.

Penn State assistant coach Jay Paterno, son of you-know-who, writes about, "Broken Promises, Useless Contracts: The Current State of Coaching," in his biweekly column.
