Diamonds and Cole

Editor's Note: The Atlanta Journal Constitution has reposted its story on Braves phenom Jason Heyward, son of Dartmouth alums Eugene and Laura Heyward. Eugene Heyward played basketball for the Big Green.

Last week the blog had a link to a highlight video of recruit Dan Henggeler of West High in Torrance, Calif. Here's one from the end of the running back/linebacker's senior season:


Henggeler was a first-team, all-area and all-league pick. He was the team MVP and defensive MVP and is an accomplished thrower on the track team in the spring. Find a nice photo of him here.

The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team posted a huge win Saturday when it knocked off No. 6 Cornell at Gillette Stadium, 8-6. It was the Big Green's first win over Cornell since 1997. The Boston Herald reports. Dartmouth is now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy League while the Big Red drops to 7-2 and 2-1. Part of a doubleheader along with Princeton-Brown, the game drew 6,403 to 68,756-seat Gillette Stadium. ...

The Dartmouth baseball team opened defense of its Ivy League title by splitting a twinbill with Cornell. The Big Green fell in the opener, 2-0, before exploding for a 16-1 victory in the nightcap as coach Bob Whalen posted his 383rd victory at the helm, tying him with Jeff Tesreau for the most wins in school history. Tesreau coached Dartmouth from 1919-1946. ... Even the Big Green softball team got in on the act, rebounding from a 1-17 start to sweep Princeton. Dartmouth is now 2-2 in the Ivies.
