Spring Football Day

The Green-White is slated for kickoff (but no kickoff returns ;-) at 10 a.m. today on Memorial Field. Here's some of what Coach Buddy Teevens had to say yesterday on BGA premium:
“We drafted the teams so it's not guys who are working regularly together, but I still expect it to be clean, and I expect execution on all sides. The biggest thing is I want somebody to step up and surprise us. The lights are on. I just told them, ‘This is for real. We're starting to put people in depth chart order and you can really help yourself, or not.’ "
The Green-White timing is unusual because there will still be three of the 12 spring practices left after today. Teevens said the tentative plan is to practice Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of next week with some heavy scrimmaging Friday.

(In addition to a full recap of today's action on Big Green Alert premium tonight, I'll be writing a recap for the official Dartmouth sports publicity football web page because the whole SID office is out of town covering other events today.)

For a discussion about the fortunes of Dartmouth's new opening-game opponent, check out this Bucknell football thread on the basketball-u board.

Colgate is gone from the schedule for a year. The Raiders' incoming recruiting class likely would not have had much of an impact on this year's game if Dartmouth and Gate were playing, but a few members of that class probably will have an impact next year when they meet in Hanover. (Barring another schedule change.) For a look at Colgate's incoming class, click here.

Given the developments here on Moose Mountain this week (that a Certain Hanover High senior is headed to Colgate next fall) I found myself reminiscing about her first trip out to Hamilton when she was a wee thing and traveled with us for a Dartmouth-Colgate game. We were in the tailgate area behind the end zone when the Colgate band assembled in front of her and began to play a song that features a popular refrain (you know the tune). The trombone player was on his knees right by her as his bandmates sang:
Hey, hey hey baby!
I want to knooooow ... if you'll be my girl
The answer, it turned out, was yes.

And finally, it isn't quite as embarrassing as Yale's high school musical admissions video (see the end of this posting) but a regular reader has emailed a link to a Notre Dame musical video, We Are ND.

As an aside: The Penn Stater in me wishes when I was in State College recently that I'd bought the Whiteout T-shirt that on the front reads: We Are. On the back it reads: You're Not.

Sorry ND;-)
