Score One for the Non-Scholarship Guys

Those of you who fall back on the argument that the Ivy League wouldn't be competitive as a reason not to go to the NCAA football playoffs might want to check out what happened in the Lehigh-Northern Iowa game yesterday. Congratulations to the Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks, 14-7 winners, who made a statement by dealing No. 16 UNI an opening-round loss in the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. The Des Moines Register has a story. Lehigh will now visit No. 3 Delaware on Saturday.

Congratulations, as well, to the Dartmouth men's ice hockey team for its first sweep of Harvard since 1995-96, and to the men's basketball team for an 80-63 win over Colgate.

Next on tap: a huge men's soccer game between Dartmouth and UCLA in the NCAA Sweet 16. You can access live audio of the game here.

It was breezy in the absolute top row of Rentschler Field yesterday, but That Certain Hanover High Student and his best buddy thoroughly enjoyed UConn's 38-17 win over Cincinnati that puts the Huskies in the driver's seat for a BCS bowl game. The stinging in my face from the constant wind (did I say breezy? Wrong.) subsided a couple of hours after our three-hour drive home ;-)

It was kind of fun to watch UConn's Jordan Todman run for 175 yard. His name frequently popped up on my web searches for Dartmouth a few years ago because he was a star running back at Dartmouth High School in North Dartmouth, Mass. Todman is second in the nation in rushing at 148.1 yards per game, behind only Oregon's LaMichael James.

And finally, finish off your Thanksgiving Weekend with a look at the NFL Today video, Chris Henry's Legacy Lives On from CBS TV. Keep a hanky handy. (Thanks for the link.)
