Football team captain, straight-A student, prom king and Clearwater High's senior class president, Bennie Niles leaves soon for Dartmouth, where he'll play foootball while studying to be a cardiologist.(There's an accompanying story, but it's not online.)
Here's what coach Buddy Teevens had to say about Niles in the Big Green Alert premium look at the early decision recruiting class back in December:
“I just had an opportunity to watch him in all-star practice. He is a compact individual with real good speed. He's a very good cover guy, good return guy. We see him as a cover corner with very good speed. He has good quickness, tackles well. An aggressive guy. He's one of the quicker kids coming in.”For Niles' highlight video click here. A reminder that the Dartmouth Friends of Football Golf Classic is set for Saturday, June 18, at Hanover Country Club. The 12:30 p.m. shotgun start begins with lunch at 11 a.m. under the tent at the course. The event includes cocktails, dinner, a raffle and an auction that if it's anything like they have been in the past, will have some really good stuff and some even better laughs. Reunion classes of 1977, 1981, 1986, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2006 will be in town. Find a brochure for the event here.*
The No. 11 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team plays host to No. 8 Albany at 1 p.m. today in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Dartmouth was awarded the home field because of a debatable conflict with Albany graduation. The Great Danes come into the event as the only undefeated team in the land but that likely won't daunt the Big Green, which knocked off undefeated and top-ranked Maryland in its last appearance on Scully-Fahey Field. Dartmouth is 8-0 at home this spring. Watch streaming video of the game for FREE here.
