Fore!

Today is the annual Dartmouth Friends of Football Golf Classic at Hanover Country Club. The good news is that it takes place during reunions, so there are plenty of people around. The bad news is that with reunions going on, President Jim Yong Kim – AKA That Certain Avid Golfer – has a pretty full plate.

Still, President Kim has found a way to squeeze in an appearance that should be fun for him as well as for those taking part in the "Classic."

The plan is for President Kim to address the golfers from the first tee box and then smack a half-dozen or so drives down the first fairway. His longest drive will be marked and any golfer who outdrives him during the ensuing "Classic" will receive a dozen golf balls from the president when he returns in the evening. (Green Alert Take: Either President Kim has a lot of confidence in his driver or he has a pretty good supply of golf balls ;-)

President Kim is slated to speak to the gathering around 7 p.m., between the end of the dinner and the beginning of the auction/raffle.

I'll have a few photos from the golf "Classic" on the blog tomorrow but we've got a very important family gathering this afternoon south of Boston so I'll have to jump ship shortly after the president tees off.

Brought home by That Certain Hanover High Graduate at the end of the school year: a T-shirt from Dartmouth's Celebration of Athletic Excellence that has the following printed on the back ...
Take care of yourself
Take care of each other
Take care of this place
We are Dartmouth
Well said.

From an NCAA release yesterday (discuss among yourselves):
If the University of North Dakota continues to use the nickname and logo past the August 15 deadline due to state law, it will be subject to the parameters of the policy. This means the university could not host any championships or use the nickname and logo at any championship events.

This morning's paper reports that incoming running back Cody Patch of nearby Lebanon has been chosen to the New Hampshire all-state Division III lacrosse first team.

Hanover High had to move its graduation indoors last evening because of rain and as a volunteer Mrs. BGA brought home one of the booklets from the awards presentation earlier in the week. Seeing the names of the male and female athletes of the year put in perspective how special it was when That Certain Hanover High Grad won the latter award a year ago. I'm not sure it really sunk in until now.
