Fore!

Last week's snow aside, it's time to block out your calendar for this year's Dartmouth's Friends of Football Golf Classic. The annual fundraiser is slated for Saturday, June 16, at Hanover Country Club. The reunion classes in town that weekend will be 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2007.

Emailers have shared several links you may find interesting on an otherwise slow Monday. If you are curious how you would fare taking football's Wonderlic test, you can try a sample of the test here. Are you Pat McInally or are you Vince Young? (Journalists, in case you are wondering, apparently tie with offensive tackles - the "smartest" football players ;-) . . .

Curious about how football deals with "palpably unfair acts," (and what they are)? Click here.

Did you go to Dartmouth's graduation last spring and find yourself wondering about President George H.W. Bush's, um, curious socks? A reader shares this story from the Houston Chronicle that offers some of the back story, with mentions of Mr. Bush's appearance at Dartmouth.

It's not football and it's not even sports, but for anyone who has visited Hanover on game day, a visit to Lou's is a must. The Daily Dartmouth has a look at the venerable downtown institution that begins this way:
Although the restaurant has undergone several alterations during its 65 years in Hanover, the classic atmosphere and menu continue to attract students, alumni and local residents alike.

Mrs. BGA and I took a 2 1/2-hour snowshoe hike out our front door and through the woods yesterday afternoon and were reminded once again about how special it is up here on the shoulder of Moose Mountain. (We also were reminded how many animals live in these woods because their tracks were everywhere ;-) Anyway, as we got back home on a beautifully crisp, clear day I glanced at the valley below and the five ski areas off in the distance and found myself thinking about all the pictures of the view I've posted here on the blog over the past seven years. We've lived in this house for 15 years now and the view still takes my breath away.
