Recruit Bolts

It probably happens to every school but it's still disappointing.

Tulsa World reports that Dartmouth has lost a committed recruit when Jerry Uwaezuoke, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive lineman accepted a scholarship to Tulsa. From the World:
Uwaezuoke had originally intented to attend Dartmouth, but opted out when the Tulsa opportunity opened up. Since the Ivy League school doesn’t give scholarships, Uwaezuoke can play right away.

“I felt like Tulsa had more to offer and plays a high level of football,” Uwaezuoke said. “Their academics aren’t as good as Dartmouth, but it is a very good school academic-wise.”

Uwaezuoke was partially recruited to Dartmouth by Calvin Thibodeaux, who now is on the Tulsa staff.
Uwaezuoke was a second-team 20-5A All-District pick out of Houston's Westbury HS. To see what Tulsa picked off, check out his video highlights.

Who is The Sports Network's choice as the top pro prospect among Ivy League defensive players who are graduating this spring? While Dartmouth corner Shawn Abuhoff certainly had to be in the discussion (here's his ESPN draft page), TSN gives the nod to Josue Ortiz, Harvard's 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end (TSN link)

Four Dartmouth opponents have posted their 2012 rosters: Columbia, Cornell, Yale and Holy Cross.

A year ago the Big Green had a bumper crop of 34 seniors on the roster. Although the Dartmouth roster hasn't yet been updated for 2012, there are 25 juniors and at least one senior who will be returning next fall. How does that compare to the schools who have already posted their 2012 rosters? Columbia lists 28 seniors, Cornell 27, Yale 27 and Holy Cross 21. But keep in mind, it's normal for a few names to disappear between now and the start of the season.

We were over at the University of New Hampshire campus last night to watch the Hanover High School boys basketball team play in the Division II state semifinals. Hanover came into the game as the top seed with a 20-2 overall record but despite a furious comeback that pulled the Marauders to within five points with the ball and just over a minute to play, they fell to 17-4 Bedford, 54-46.

The difference?

With players standing 6-foot-10, 6-8, 6-8, 6-6 and 6-4 the ridiculously tall Bedford team spent all night jamming the ball inside and playing patty cake off the glass. When the game was over none of us could remember Bedford even attempting a shot from longer than five feet. Bedford was taller than Dartmouth and most teams the Big Green played this winter.

Hanover's tallest player was a 6-4 senior who has an application in at Dartmouth but could end up playing college football in the NESCAC. (link). The three-time all-state wide receiver had 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks against what might well be the tallest front line in New Hampshire high school history and probably one of the tallest in the country this year among public schools.
