Jack Musick served as an assistant coach under Bob Blackman at Monrovia HS in California in 1947 and at Pasadena City College in 1949. After leaving for a high school coaching job he went to Denver University with Blackman in 1953 and then followed him to Dartmouth in 1955. Musick teamed with Blackman to help Dartmouth to four Ivy League titles before going on to Cornell as head coach in 1966.
In 1971 Musick led the Big Red to its first Ivy League title with a running back by the name of Ed Marinaro.
