This And That

Another beautiful morning here in Happy Valley. Unfortunately, the string is supposed to end tomorrow when there's a 70 percent chance of rain before, during and after the Blue-White game. This is our eighth trip out here for spring football and at least the third – and maybe the fourth – time it has rained. Oh well.
Be sure to check out last night's story on BGA Premium for a look at the Dartmouth quarterback sweepstakes. You can click it right up there at the top of this page. (Unfortunately, the sign-on procedure is not working with the Chrome browser, so try Firefox if you have it.)

There will be a short catch-up column on BGA Premium tomorrow night. Still hoping to get a few observations from eyewitnesses at practice, hint, hint. Anonymity is promised ;-)

We'll be driving the old VW back through the rain on Sunday.
ESPN High School Report's New England Roundup looks at the NCAA's misguided ruling that has put holding the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl all-star game at Dartmouth's Memorial Field in jeopardy.
BGA has had numerous links over the years to stories about the book, “Reclaiming the Game: College Sports and Educational Values.” Now a writer for the Yale Daily News has gone to the book to help explain the problems with the Bulldog athletic program. From the story:
. . . (T)he source of my interest was in its authors, one William G. Bowen, a former president of Princeton University and of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and one Sarah Levin, daughter of Yale’s current president, with three degrees from Harvard and fellowships at Harvard and Penn.
More kudos to the football, women's ice hockey and field hockey programs at Yale for pulling together to hold another successful bone marrow drive that registered 516 potential donors. Link
In addition to a less-than-fruitful meeting with the financial aid people and a tremendous meeting with an academic advisor here at Penn State yesterday, we hiked to a couple of overlooks atop Mt. Nittany. Impressive stuff. Today we are going to show That Certain Hanover High Senior (who likes the snow) the local ski area a few minutes off campus, and perhaps the nature area where his freshman trip will begin and end in August.
