Final Friday

Dartmouth Now has a story about senior tailback Dominick Pierre that is accompanied by this video:

The Sports Network has a capsule preview of tomorrow's Dartmouth-Princeton game that includes this:
Although Dartmouth is ninth in the FCS and ranks first in the Ivy League in scoring defense, the Princeton offense that ranks second in the country in scoring offense will be too much for the Big Green to handle.
Prediction: Princeton 32, Dartmouth 21

The Daily Princetonian has a preview that includes this:
. . . Dalyn Williams will lead the Big Green under center. Though Williams is not known to put up huge numbers, one little number sticks out — he has thrown only three interceptions all season. Not committing turnovers — which the Big Green has done the least in the league — will be key for the team, as many a Princeton opponent has seen a close game become a blowout after coughing up the ball during a crucial drive.
There is no preview story in The Dartmouth.
The Harvard Crimson writes about Harvard coach Tim Murphy needing a little help from old friend Buddy Teevens and his Big Green, but doesn't think it will come. The Crimson has Princeton defeating Dartmouth, 42-31.
With Princeton and Harvard both 8-1, could both schools be in line for the NCAA playoffs if the Ivy League presidents deemed them worthy? Posters on the Any Given Saturday messageboard think it would have been a possibility.

Green Alert Take: The Ivy League likes to make noise about doing college sports the right way. Just think about the powerful message the Ivy League would have been able to send around the country if Harvard and Princeton were to go to the NCAA football playoffs. Maybe, just maybe, the message would have gotten out that you really can be a top student and an accomplished athlete at the same time. Ivy League presidents, you had a chance to have the bully pulpit you covet and once again you blew it.
According to Mass Prep Stars, Miles Wright, a 6-foot-4ish shooting guard from Tabor Academy, will continue his basketball career at Dartmouth. Wright is also a very talented football player although he is headed for the Hanover hardwood. From the story:
Miles Wright, the two-sport standout, is heading to Dartmouth College, following an official visit this past weekend.
Wright landed an offer from Dartmouth back in April, when he was running with Metro Boston. It was one of several Ivy League teams to show interest in him while other schools such as UMass and Holy Cross had extended football scholarships to him. The 6-foot-4 Wright was not just a talented shooting guard, he was Tabor Academy's starting quarterback, whose size and athleticism made him tough to stop running the read option.
From an earlier ESPN report prior to his commitment:
... Wright is drawing interest in basketball, where he is a shooting guard, and football, where he plays quarterback. Boston College and Syracuse have offered strictly for football, while Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown and Bryant have offered for basketball only. UMass and Yale have an interest in Wright playing both sports for them, while New Hampshire and Holy Cross have expressed interest in having him for either sport.
Speaking of basketball, Dartmouth defensive back Josh Winslow will be watching Duke games closely over the next four years. The sophomore's brother, Justise, will be playing for the Blue Devils. Justise is ranked the No. 14 prospect in the nation. See a picture and read about his decision here.
Once again this year the folks at Asgard Press are offering calendars featuring 12 frame-ready 11x14 prints of classic Dartmouth football program covers. Each page can be neatly detached for easy framing. In addition to Dartmouth there are calendars for Harvard, Penn and Yale along with schools like Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State.

From the Asgard website:
The images featured in this calendar are archival-quality reproductions of the covers of the actual souvenir game programs that were sold at the games many decades ago. In some cases the images have been digitally repaired and restored where creases, tears, marks, or other damage would have otherwise distracted from the appreciation of the artwork as it appeared at that time. Some images have been cropped and/or resized to fit this format.
With the holidays coming you may want to check the calendars out by clicking here. If you use the promo code biggreen13 your faithful blogger will even get a few shekels if you place an order ;-)
