NextTitle18

A Dartmouth football alum and friend of BGA is sponsoring a contest before Big Green home football games this fall, with the winner each week being awarded a $100 gift certificate to one of Hanover's fine eating/drinking establishments.

This week's gift certificate will be to the Hanover Inn's acclaimed Pine Restaurant.

The question:

How big will the crowd be Saturday night at Memorial Field when Dartmouth plays host to Central Connecticut State in the opener at The Woods?

To enter the contest send an email to guesstheattendance@gmail.com with your best estimate of the size of the crowd. One entry per email address.

There will be a new contest before each home game, but be sure to enter this one because with the late start there may be a limited number of other entries, making your chances of winning greater!

Here is a little information to help you make a more-informed guess:

• The home opener against Holy Cross under the lights last year drew 9,227
• The 2012 opener against Butler under the lights drew 9,089
• The 2011 home opener against Sacred Heart drew 6,427
• The average home attendance last year was 5,807

Good luck and be sure to visit this electronic precinct in two weeks for another NextTitle18 contest!

Employees of BGA and its subsidiaries are ineligible. Oh wait, there are no employees and there is no subsidiary ;-)
Dartmouth's game notes have been posted. (LINK) As far as the "two-deep" goes, your mileage may vary.

Worth noting: after losing four consecutive openers, Dartmouth has won the last four at Bucknell, home against Colgate, home against Butler, and at Butler.

Central Connecticut's game notes are also up. The Blue Devils are 1-0 all-time against Ivy League teams with a 22-13 win over Columbia in 2009.  (LINK).
The local daily has a Dartmouth season preview (LINK) that includes this quote from Big Green co-captain Sean Ronan:
“There’s a huge buzz right now on campus. It’s been a long time since we got that last championship and everybody’s waiting, from the other students to faculty to administrators. We’re all ready to get it done.”
The Dartmouth daily newspaper does a nice job with a preview of the opener. (LINK)

The view at the end of our driveway this morning was spectacular with the morning fog creating islands down in the valley. Dartmouth and Hanover are somewhere down there! The fog will have burned off by the time we finish the BGA Moose Mountain hike Saturday, but if you come by the house afterward I can show you where I snapped this pic. For more on the hike, email me and I'll send directions and more information.
