Count Down To Georgetown

It's game week. Finally.

Dartmouth football opens the 2015 season at Georgetown Saturday at noon and if you haven't yet signed up for BGA Premium what are you waiting for? A total of 21 full-length postings out of Dartmouth football practice have gone up on the site since Aug. 26, and it will be 22 tonight, so if you are going to catch up you better get going ;-)
The bad news is the Georgetown game is sold out. The good news is that you can stream it live on your computer for free according to THIS STORY.

Green Alert Take: On a reconnaissance mission I watched some of the Georgetown-Marist stream on Saturday and when it worked it was fine. Note the wording. Curiously, the game doesn't show up in the upcoming events listing on either the Georgetown or Patriot League video pages . . .

Speaking of Georgetown, there's a blog posting from six years ago (LINK) that says of the Hoyas' stadium facility, "With the possible exception of the 20 yards of seats at the Butler Bowl, it's the smallest "facility" in Division I football, and an embarassment of sorts when Georgetown hosts a team like Yale."

Interesting that Dartmouth's last intersectional game was at, you guessed it, Butler. Fortunately, the Butler Bowl had been renovated by then. Unfortunately, Multi-Sport Field has not, meaning it is the smallest DI facility in the nation. The blog post does note that there have been plans drawn up in the past for an upgrade.
Here are the Sagarin Ratings for this week. The sequence of three numbers is preseason, last week, and this week in bold.

Ivy League
Harvard 142, 140, 141
Dartmouth 172, 177, 174
Yale 182, 185, 187

Princeton 198, 202, 203
Penn 212, 213, 211
Cornell 234, 233, 234
Columbia 240, 242, 239

(252 ranked)

Nonconference Opponents
Sacred Heart 200, 203, 167
Central Connecticut 224, 224, 232
Georgetown  225, 234, 225

Last This Week
Davidson 253

Green Alert Take: Dartmouth and Columbia received a mini-boost from Georgetown getting a win over Marist. Sacred Heart got a maxi-boost from actually playing – and beating – an FCS Division I team, albeit a Valparaiso team that is one step away from the basement and likely is worse than the DII St. Anselm team Sacred Heart beat a week before.
Former Cornell coach Kent Austin, now head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL, has apologized for bumping a receiver on another team. From the Toronto Sun:
Austin appeared to deliberately bump (Dave) Stala as he walked past the Argos receiver who was filling in for the injured punter Swayze Waters on the play.
Austin feigned ignorance when asked about the incident after the game, but Sunday issued the following apology:
“After seeing the video of my sideline bump of Dave Stala during Friday’s game, I have spoken with Dave and apologized for my action. I have high regard for Dave as a player and as a person, and by no means was he a premeditated target."
There's a special story out of Villanova where Jake Prus, the Wildcats' top offensive lineman, will miss three games after making a bone marrow donation. He's not the first player at the school that spearheads the BeTheMatch campaign do so. From a Philly.com story:
Villanova last won a football national championship in 2009. That was also the last year they had someone match to be a bone-marrow donor. Matt Szczur, who now plays for the Chicago Cubs, had a procedure following their championship season. Szczur's cells saved a young girl's life in Israel.
Prus knows that winning a national championship would be cool, yet there might be something more rewarding he can help win for someone: a second chance at life.
"It's cool being able to save someone's life by doing so little on my part," Prus said.
There's another, more recent story from Fox here.

Green Alert Take: These are the best sports stories of the year. Thanks for the link!
The fabulously named Le Journal du Geek, which needs no translation, has a story about the Dartmouth MVP (which does need a translation ;-).

Check the story out HERE. (Fun to see my MVP video going international.)
