Big Shot

Incoming Dartmouth defensive end Seth Walter won a Florida state shot put championship by more than five feet. The Bradenton Herald and Herald-Tribune both have stories.

From the Herald:
The medal is Walter's second in the shot put. He finished fourth in 4A last year to cap his first season in the sport and draw the eye of college recruiters. He's committed to play football at Dartmouth, a Football Championship Subdivision program, and chose the Big Green over other offers in part because the school will allow him to both play football and compete in the shot put.
One of this weekend's assignments is working up a BGA Premium story on the incoming Dartmouth recruits. To that end I met with coach Buddy Teevens last week and this is part of what he had to say about Walter:
"A very good track athlete offered by Florida State for track. He's a well-weight trained kid who can run and is athletic in space."
(Look for the BGA recruiting roundup early this week.)

And for the record, Dartmouth had another pretty fair football/shot put double in Adam Nelson '97. Whatever happened to him? CLICK HERE to find out.
Back when college administrations actually had a sense of humor (if such a thing is possible ;-) the folks at Wonder Bread had some fun with "Crazy College Pennant" stickers with a Disney theme.

Here's a 1976 pennant that just sold on eBay for $1.99:

Here are a few more from the Ivies and elsewhere:

And the best one, given the Disney theme:
