In The News

The Big News Network has a story under the headline, Female NFL Fandom Hit All-Time High in 2019 (LINK) that starts this way:
In 2019, female NFL fandom hit an all-time high with women making up 47% of the league's fanbase.
With March being women's history month, Jane Skinner Goodell, wife to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, joined Hayley Elwood on Playmakers to discuss why numbers like that are on the rise, why more women are tuning into the game than ever before, and more
Here's part of what she had to say:
"The pipeline (for women) can't just start at the NFL, it has to start a little earlier. At Dartmouth College, Buddy Teevens is the head coach there, Jen King (a Redskins 2020 full-year coaching intern) worked for him before she went to work for the Redskins. He's somebody who very clearly says he loves to hear other people's perspectives and people who haven't necessarily come from a traditional pipeline. Jen King was a police officer for four years. She did different jobs and just always had this passion for football (with a) very smart football mind. "
Princeton Football's series spun out of the 150th anniversary of the college game continues with The Greatest Clutch Plays of Princeton’s Ivy Era. Three of the 35 plays come from one game alone – the epic Nov. 3, 2018 battle of the unbeatens in New Jersey that Princeton won, 14-9. (LINK)

Here's the part that will have Big Green fans nodding in agreement. Jay Greenberg, who has seen his share of Princeton football, writes that the game left Dartmouth "perhaps the best-ever Ivy team to not even get a share of the title."
Dartmouth football will open next fall against Division II New Haven. While there are those who shake their heads about the DII part, that may be forgotten in the coming years if New Haven does indeed move to Division I as expected.

It wouldn't be the first time Dartmouth played down.

In addition to dominating the Ivy League, the 1969 Dartmouth team crushed New Hampshire, the undefeated 1970 team shut out UMass and the '71 and '72 teams also beat the Wildcats and Minutemen. Given that New Hampshire has become an FCS powerhouse and UMass is now nominally an FBS team those seem like more impressive wins than they were.

This is not meant in any way to detract from those teams or those games, but Dartmouth was classified until 1972 in the NCAA University Division (Major College). New Hampshire and UMass were in what was labeled NCAA College Division (Small College) until 1972, and then DII program from 1973 until 1977.

As Casey Stengel said, "You could look it up."

As for that other UNH, Collegiate Consulting just presented the University of New Haven's trustees with a Feasability Study regarding the potential move to DI. Find a story about that HERE.
EXTRA POINT
Watching clips of spring break kids on the beaches of Florida, South Padre Island and elsewhere has me screaming at the TV. Literally, as Mrs. BGA would tell you.

It also got me wondering how you could possibly change that kind of selfish behavior. (Yes, selfish.)

I first thought about saddling the partiers with fines but I suspect the kids would dig into their wallets to pull out their debit cards, or more likely ask the authorities if they take Venmo and then the parties would continue.

I know this is not practical and would never fly legally but I have one idea that I know would clear the beaches and large gatherings. Bring a good-sized hammer to the beach, start collecting cell phones and smash away. Again, it would never, and could never happen, but I promise you the beaches would clear completely.
