Strange Saturday

Ever since work began on Dartmouth's indoor practice facility BGA Daily has been posting periodic pictures of the exterior as well as links to the Campus Services page that provide updates on construction progress. A visit to that page yesterday offered an indoor photograph but also a reminder about how much things have changed:
The Indoor Practice Facility is scheduled to be complete and in use by Athletics teams on April 1. The building dedication ceremony will be open to the public and held in a tent in Thompson Lot at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1.
Read more about where the project was before everything changed HERE.
Spotted on the blog pulled together by STATS editor Craig Haley:
Largest FCS difference between points and opponent points in 2019:
North Dakota State, +399 (596 to 197)
James Madison, +389 (640 to 251)
Kennesaw State, +268 (530 to 262)
Austin Peay, +209 (518 to 309)
Dartmouth, +209 (333 to 124)
A story from upstate New York under the headline, Rochester Area College Football Players Continue Chasing NFL Hopes, mentions graduating Dartmouth quarterback and potential pro H-back/fullback Jared Gerbino among those who planned for a pro day at an indoor complex in Rochester on April 4.
We all know that NCAA spring sports have been canceled but somehow a note on the Dartmouth sports page about the Big Green women's lacrosse team being ranked ninth in the final Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll felt like a kick in the gut. (LINK)
If that didn't get you, a football story on the Athlon page with the drop-head History suggests a season without the sport will have far-reaching consequences brings up an idea that has to be growing in the back of a lot of minds. (LINK)

From the story:
The 2020 season is not scheduled to kick off for another five-and-a-half months. Social distancing continuing that long might seem outlandish now, but how preposterous would the idea of a March sans NCAA Tournament have seemed on March 1? March 5? March 10?
Green Alert Take: How much and how fast things changed around the NCAA Tournament really is a reminder that making assumptions these days is a losing proposition.

A sobering thought from the story:
Coronavirus has us in unprecedented territory, and everything from the duration of social distancing to the size of recommended gatherings has changed dramatically in just a few days. The prospect of an autumn without football is a concept for which we should all prepare . . .
On that subject, ESPN's Peter Burns Tweeted this (LINK):
Every single CFB coach right now needs to cut a PSA with this message.
"If you don't take this Virus seriously, there is NO shot in playing football this Fall. The quicker we do all of this, the quicker we can get back to normalcy"
EXTRA POINT
Not to saddle you with stuck song syndrome, but the news that singer Kenny Rogers has died got me to thinking how fitting these lyrics from The Gambler are at this uncertain time:
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
