Q&A With An Old Friend

The Gridiron Crew has a Q&A with former Dartmouth tight end JJ Jones '21, a pro hopeful who played last fall at New Mexico State, helping the Aggies to a 7-6 record and a 24-19 win in the Quick Lane Bowl. (LINK)

Princeton tailback Ryan Butler, who earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors five times last fall on the way to making the All-Ivy League honorable-mention team, is transferring to Stanford after one year with the Tigers. (LINK)

Green Alert Take: While a growing number of Ivy Leaguers are grad transferring to FBS programs Butler is a bit of an outlier, transferring after just one year in the Ancient Eight.

The NCAA has approved rules changes that will see the clock run after first downs except in the final two minutes of the first half, will eliminate untimed downs at the end of the first and third quarters (pushing those plays over to the second and fourth quarters), and will ban those annoying consecutive timeouts that coaches call to "ice" kickers. A vote on April 20 will decide if the changes are put in place for the upcoming season. (LINK)

This showed up this week on Dartmouth football social media. After making its only on-field appearance in 2021's stunning 19-0 Memorial Field loss to Columbia I thought we'd never see even a photo of this helmet design again ;-)

EXTRA POINT
With Mrs. BGA's side of the family in town for a ski weekend we woke up today to three cars in the driveway, two in the garage and a pretty healthy overnight snowfall. With everyone but me hitting the slopes today there was a lot of jockeying of cars this morning to get two cars up the driveway to the road to transport five people to the slopes, and a third car tucked in alongside the garage so our plow guy can (hopefully) clear the driveway while the skiers are doing their thing.

After a lot of shoveling and pushing of two-wheel cars that were spinning their tires trying to get traction, the skiers are on their way and the driveway is ready to be plowed when the snow finally stops.

To be honest, having been the first one to grab a shovel this morning and the last one to finish pushing, I'm pretty beat right now.

But as I told Mrs. BGA's sister, when you come to Vermont to ski – or have family come to Vermont to ski – you don't complain about the snow. You might complain about the lack of snow, which was the case when my hometown buddy was here a few weeks ago, but even if it means a lot of shoveling, you can't complain about getting dumped on!
