This And That

Found this after BGA Daily went to bed yesterday (that's "journalese" for what in this electronic era means "was posted") but thought it was fun and deserving, so here it is a day late:

Watching the Princeton-Penn State men's lacrosse tournament game last night I heard one of the announcers comment that Princeton players were in the midst of final exams. A quick Google check show that it's true. Same with Cornell, which played Michigan in the NCAAs. Yale was lucky because it would seem the Bulldogs had just finished exams before their game against Georgetown.

Green Alert Take: Those who argue that the Ivy League shouldn't be allowed to go to the FCS football playoffs because it would be disruptive for exams apparently will have to look elsewhere for an explanation for the ban. And if any of the Ivy presidents cite a conflict with exams they are hypocrites.

Green Alert Take II: Of course the football regular season finale conflicts for Dartmouth football players and they seem to do just fine, thank you very much.

Green Alert Take III: It was close but no cigar for the Ivy League men's lacrosse teams with Princeton letting a 7-1 first-half lead slip away in a 13-12 loss to the Nittany Lions, Cornell losing to first-time NCAA participant Michigan, 15-14, and Yale falling to Georgetown, 19-17.

Former Dartmouth standout Flo Orimolade '17, has had his first official practice as a member of the Toronto Argonauts after four years with the Calgary Stampeders:

The Washington Post has a lengthy, well-written and disturbing story headlined Football bonded them. Its violence tore them apart about former Harvard football teammates Chris Nowinski and Chris Eitzmann and how one came to be a crusader against the "sports-related brain trauma" that the other battled before his life was cut tragically short. Find the story HERE.

Drones have made it easier than ever to create and post aerial videos and this one of the Dartmouth campus is worth checking out:

If you just want to skip ahead to the views of Memorial Field, access that part of the video with a CLICK HERE.

This screengrab showing the stadium's proximity to the town, the campus and the Vermont hills is from the video:

EXTRA POINT

We have a couple of handheld Jeopardy scoring games that no longer work. I tried new batteries and cleaned the battery contacts all to no avail, unfortunately. I should probably toss them but they still play the Jeopardy theme and who knows? Maybe they'll work in the future. (Yeah, sure.)

Anyway, with the Jeopardy Masters Tournament continuing this week, it would be fun to play along. Of course, these units don't have all the buttons I'd like to see. In addition to the normal scoring, I wish they had buttons that would award . . .

• bonus points when you, as a home viewer, get an answer correct that all three contestants get wrong.

• even more bonus points when you have the correct answer and none of the contests even dares to ring in.

• a few points when a contestant responds correctly and upon hearing the answer you realize you actually knew it and aren't fibbing.

• and most importantly, a few points when your wrong answer in Final Jeopardy is the same as the wrong answer by one of the contestants because, really, how bad can your answer be if someone who made it to the show thinks the way you do?
