Of Rankings And Ratings

Did you check out The Optimist and The Pessimist yet on BGA Overtime?

The Sagarin Ratings service has the Ivy League ranked this way:

1 Harvard 52.32

2 Dartmouth 49.77

3 Yale 49.71

4 Columbia 47.46

5 Penn 46.84

6 Princeton 44.00

7 Brown 41.87

8 Cornell 41.09

Jake Novak down at Columbia's Roar Lions Roar 2024 blog has this week's game as pitching the top two teams in his ranking against each other. His power rankings look like this (LINK):

1 Dartmouth

2 Columbia

3 Harvard

4 Yale

5 Penn

6 Princeton

7 Brown

8 Cornell

Of No. 22 Dartmouth, Jake writes:

The Big Green are now 2-0 without their starting QB playing a down in either game, and they own a 5-0 record. They are #1 until someone knocks them off.

And of Columbia he writes:

The Lions answered some questions about their defense in the win at Penn while the offense showed it's strong in all facets.

And finally, the Massey Ratings service has Dartmouth defeating Columbia, 23-21, with 54 percent confidence. Massey continues to have Dartmouth finishing 9-1 with a loss next week to Harvard, 27-24.

Massey sees Columbia losing its next three against Dartmouth, Yale and Harvard  to finish 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the Ivies.

One of the players Dartmouth will have to contend with Saturday is Columbia running back Joey Giorgi. The Spectator has a story about the fifth-year senior who is second in the Ivy League in rushing this fall with 91.0 yards per game. From the story (LINK):

In his senior year, Giorgi was Wisconsin’s leading high school rusher. The captain’s 2,338 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns through 12 games powered the Black Hawks to the playoffs once again, also earning him all-state honors.

EXTRA POINT
With it being unseasonably warm again yesterday, Mrs. BGA and I spent part of the afternoon back at our local lake. This time instead of sitting in our old VW camper writing I joined Mrs. BGA on the beach. And then, just because it's not something you ever thought you'd be able to do in late October in Northern New England, we plunged in the water. (With the air temperature in the low 70s we had worn our bathing suits just in case we felt brave – or stupid.) I'm not about to tell you it was pleasant, but I can tell you I've been in colder water on the Maine coast – in the middle of summer!
