News From The Woods

And oldie but goodie on what is starting off as a snowy Sunday in the Upper Valley . . .

Congratulations to Dartmouth assistant head coach Sammy McCorkle, who can add the title "Dad of Basketball State Champion" alongside "Secondary/Special Teams Coach." McCorkle's daughter Maddie scored a team-high 15 points Friday to help the Hanover High School girls basketball team to a 52-41 win and a New Hampshire state championship with a 21-1 record. It's the school's first title on the hardwood since 2008.

Maddie shows she knows her way around a quote in the Manchester Union Leader game story. One of three McCorkle girls, Maddie is committed to Duke for lacrosse.

The only remaining member of the staff Buddy Teevens brought to Dartmouth upon his return in 2005, McCorkle will coach his 15th season in The Woods this fall. For a story I wrote about him and the importance of family in his life, CLICK HERE.
And finally, clearing off my computer desktop I came across a photo That Certain Dartmouth '14 shot late last fall while working at Yellowstone. She's since moved on to Grand Canyon and now the Black Canyon of the Gunnison but she'll have a hard time topping this pic. Click to enlarge it and enjoy!
