From Dartmouth's PR office. Sure wish I was home (that's not true) and could slow this one down for you. That part is true:

EXTRA POINT
Greetings from Carlisle, Pa., my old stomping ground. We hadn't intended to go this far yesterday (490 or so miles) but we kept going and spent the night in a quiet(er) section of a Cracker Barrel restaurant. Not the most idyllic spot but it was close to the interstate and the price was right: free.
We're thinking about spending a little time in Gettysburg (where I almost went to college) and then heading halfway to the Louisville area. We'll probably drive 300-350 miles and overnight in West Virginia.
The '84 VW drove like a champion despite on-and-off rain. In the final analysis we were pleased that there were as many stretches without rain as there were but yikes, the cell that hit us just past Harrisburg was a doozy.
