Familiar Names

Three Ivy Leaguers made the FCS Stats second All-America team – although Dartmouth was shut out.

Chosen were Princeton linebacker Jeremiah Tyler, Brown quarterback EJ Perry selected, strangely, at the "all-purpose" position, and Columbia punt returner Mike Roussos, named as punt returner.

Green Alert Take: Dartmouth's Drew Estrada belonged on one of the teams at the very least at one of his positions – receiver, return specialist or all-purpose – but as a fifth-year senior STATS might have been nrevous about his status regarding the next season given that no one yet knows when it will take place.

Jennifer King, a quality control assistant with Dartmouth football last year, is the subject of another story about her new role as an intern with Washington's NFL football team. (LINK)

From an FCS football tweet regarding coin flip protocol this fall:

Only one captain from each team, the referee and the umpire are considered essential for the coin toss. The four individuals will be spaced out to conform to social distancing guidelines.

Green Alert Take: Yeah, and then those captains will join their teammates tackling and jumping on top of each other and the officials will run to the pile and grab and pull the sweaty players off each other. But hey, if they get sick it won't be at the coin toss.

A friend has shared a link to a Star Tribune story under the headline, Minnesota colleges make incremental progress in hiring coaches and administrators of color, but much is left to do. (LINK)

Why is that of local interest? The photo features Donnie Brooks, formerly of Dartmouth DP2 and a familiar face around Big Green football, who is now athletic director Macalester College. Also pictured is Abe Woldeslassie, his head men's basketball coach and a former Big Green assistant.

Dartmouth has released a video regarding the importance of face-covering and the school policy:

EXTRA POINT
After a couple of overnights at Cracker Barrels and a couple at my brother's, we spent last night in the VW poptop in a free state forest campground. It was virtually empty, peaceful and completely quiet, but that wasn't the best news.

No, that would be simply that the campground was in Missouri, the 49th state Mrs. BGA has visited. She'll complete her state collection tomorrow when we cross into Kansas.

I tried teasing her before we left that we'd be looping around the state but I wouldn't do that to her. I know what it's like to be missing Kansas. Hard as it is to believe given its position in the middle of the country, it was also my 50th state and for years our kids thoroughly enjoyed teasing me about it. I finally got there four years ago when I helped That Certain Dartmouth '14 drive to a ranger job in Colorado. Google directions had shown the trip to be about 45 minutes longer going by way of Kansas, but that detour was a no-brainer. This trip, likewise, might have been about an hour or so shorter if we'd taken a more northern route but when I was plotting our route I made sure it would get Mrs. BGA to 50.

For what it's worth, she landed at St. Louis once but the official rules of the game did not count Missouri because she never left the airport.  ;-)
