From Hanover To The Hall

TMZ Sports has a different photo of the display honoring the former Dartmouth quality control coach HERE. Pro Football Network, mwanwhile, has a story headlined Who is Callie Brownson? Making a name for female NFL coaches that includes this (LINK):

Callie Brownson took the opportunity to intern at Dartmouth College in the summer of 2018, accepting what she originally assumed would be a two-week role. Buddy Teevens had other ideas, though. On her last day, however, as things were winding down, he took the opportunity to address his team. He let them know that he had heard their pleas and that Brownson would be joining the staff as an offensive quality control coach. With that, she was officially the first female full-time coach in NCAA Division 1 college football.

Teevens was so impressed with Brownson’s work that he recommended her to Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

While Niko Lalos has earned a spot with the New York Giants and Matt Kaskey is on the Carolina Panthers' practice squad, fellow Big Green alum Flo Orimolade '17 is still waiting his turn to finally have a significant impact with the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders. From a story north of the border (LINK):

If patience is a virtue, there can be little doubt that Folarin Orimolade is a virtuous man.

Heading into Calgary Stampeders training camp in 2019, Orimolade was expected to be one of the team’s breakout stars on the defensive side of the ball after an intriguing rookie year.

His season ended in the Stamps’ very first pre-season game, though, when Orimolade tore his quadriceps tendon.

He rehabbed for a year, and when the Stamps signed him last off-season it was widely expected that he’d take over one of the team’s defensive end positions in 2020.

Well, COVID-19 took care of that, and Orimolade has had to wait another full year to hopefully take his place in the Stamps’ starting lineup.

On Monday morning, the team re-committed to the 25-year-old by signing him for next season.

Per the story in his rookie season the former Dartmouth linebacker played "in 10 regular-season games in 2018, as well as the West Final and Grey Cup, and had seven defensive tackles, 10 special-teams tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one knockdown."

Craig Haley has a capsule look at spring football plans across the FCS. Of the 13 conferences in the subdivision, 11 will play modified schedules. The Patriot League has not announced its plans. The only conference that has announced it is not playing this spring is the Ivy League. (LINK)

Yale running back Alan Lamar, who ran for 1,471 yards and 16 touchdowns during his career in New Haven, will be a grad transfer at Arkansas State next fall.

And in another blow to the struggling Patriot League, conference rookie of the year Keegan Shoemaker is transferring from Lafayette to Sam Houston State after just one season in Easton. As a freshman he threw for 2,540 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 60 percent of his attempts.

To the list of teams opting out of bowl consideration is Georgia Tech, which finished the season 3-7. (There's no record requirement for bowl participation this year.)

Even in relatively remote northern New England the pandemic continues taking a toll. The local daily reports there has been a fifth COVID-19 death at Hanover Terrace nursing home, just up the street from the college. There were 63 positive tests among the facility's 68 residents. (LINK)

EXTRA POINT
Our power went out overnight, leaving me to start pulling together BGA Daily on my laptop with help from the rechargeable personal "hotspot" we bought when we lived off the grid in the tiny house.

We have a gas-driven, "whole house" portable generator that runs quite nicely, if a bit noisily. Unfortunately it doesn't generate power, which would seem to be the objective. Our electrician looked at it and said it was a minor issue, which may be why he hasn't seemed particularly eager to drive up the hill and fix it.

As the great Thomas Magnum would say, "I know what you are thinking."

Yes, we had a drive-in movie screen-sized solar tracker installed last spring. But here's the thing. It sends all the electricity it generates directly to the grid and not to our house. That reduces our electric bill quite nicely, thank you very much, but does bupkis for us when the power goes out.

While we were pricing out the solar tracker last winter we looked into installing a home battery system that the tracker would keep charged while simultaneously sending electricity to the grid. But the price was so high it was recommended that we hold off for a year and then reconsider.

Timing is everything.

Just last week an email arrived announcing that the much-anticipated price drop was in effect and there's a 22 percent federal solar energy tax credit that will expire at the end of 2021.

Anyone want to buy a whole house portable generator? I'll even send along contact information for our electrician ;-)
