Still More

The news will slow soon, but in the meantime, here's the front page of the New York Post after the New York Giants' victory Saturday:

And yes, that's Niko Lalos '20, carrying the football. ;-)

From a story in the New York Post after Lalos' big interception helped the Giants to the win (LINK):
“To be honest, we’re not surprised he was around the ball,” coach Joe Judge said. “We see that every day in practice. Practice execution becomes game reality. He showed up for us today.”

The Giants signed Lalos, 23, as an undrafted rookie in April and re-signed him to the practice squad after he missed the final cut in September. He wasn’t a starter until his junior year at Dartmouth and wasn’t First-Team All-Ivy until his senior year.
The upward climb has continued with the Giants.
“From the beginning, he’s just shown constant improvement every day,” Judge said. “We talk to our guys all the time about how it doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing. He’s taken a lot of reps for us on the practice squad and worked hard on special teams. When we talked this week about who we liked in certain roles, his name came up. The coaches felt confident.”

Per this website, Lalos played eight snaps on defense (16.3 percent of the team's plays on defense) and eight on special teams (27.6 percent). Another site has him playing nine snaps defensively but earning an 88.1 rating, third-best on the team. (LINK)

Overshadowed by his interception was a hard pass rush by Lalos that contributed to a fumble.

The Dartmouth football office is both congratulating Lalos and at the same time letting would-be Big Green players know they can make it from Hanover to the NFL with this graphic:

The Cleveland Browns' website has a story (click HERE or on graphic below) about Callie Brownson, the former Dartmouth quality control coach/recruiting director who served as the NFL team's tight ends coach on Sunday. High praise in the story for Brownson, the team's chief of staff whose primary on-field work has been with the receivers:
"She has always been on point since the day that she has walked in this building," wide receiver Jarvis Landry said. "She is a true testament for all the women that are making a name for themselves in this league. She stepped up to the challenge today and this whole entire week. Coaching the tight ends, meeting with them, being able to get the personnel together today, she was just ahead of schedule and on point as ever.
"She is Callie. She is one of the people that make this building go. We are blessed to have her."

Green Alert Take: Anyone who has been around Brownson at Dartmouth or has gotten to know here would agree that Landry nailed it perfectly with three words. "She is Callie."

NBCSports has a video piece with football guru Peter King under the headline, How Princeton players are making most of lost year. As it turns out, the Tigers were slated to have 17 seniors this fall and every last one of them put in a "leave application" from the university. They all had their applications approved and will return en masse next fall. Many of them are living and training together this year. Check it out HERE.

The craziness continues.

The Ravens-Steelers game, originally scheduled for Thanksgiving night, has been rescheduled for a third time. It will now be played tomorrow, kicking off at 3:40 p.m.

Why the bizarre kick time? It gets even crazier, per this Tweet from Adam Schefter:
Another ultimate 2020 note: the Ravens-Steelers game is kicking off Wednesday at 3:40 pm because NBC wanted and was committed to broadcasting the 88th Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday night, per sources. Tree lighting trumped football.

Green Alert Take: You can't make this stuff up.

EXTRA POINT

Believe it or not – and I didn't when I picked it up at our little post office – our first Christmas card arrived in the mail yesterday. I knew what it was and who it was from the minute I pulled it out of the box.

We don't get many cards from friends I grew up and went to school with, but this one buddy from my hometown always gets his cards out early. I can't say this for sure, but I think this is the first time his card has arrived in November. What I can say for sure is his card is always, and I mean always, the first to arrive.

Happy December everybody ;-)
