So You Know . . .

BGA Daily may (or may not) be coming to you later today. (This was written last night and posted automagically this morning.)

Mrs. BGA and I are in the White Mountains of New Hampshire dropping That Certain Dartmouth '14 off at the start of the Presidential Traverse. We will pick her up some time later at the end of the Traverse. If we find wifi at a reasonable hour after dropping her off at the start I'll update this site.

Curious about the trek she's attempting today? This is from a couple of websites:

The Presidential Traverse is an excellent and well-traveled hike of some of New Hampshire's highest peaks all located in the White Mountains – almost all at maximum exposure. This trip is not for the faint of heart and not to be attempted in just one day, but it can be done with the right preparation. Many choose to complete this trail as a multi-day backpacking trip (2-3 days).

The official Presidential range begins north to south at Madison peak and then onwards to Adams peak. Hikers will reach Jefferson and Washington summit next, then continue on to the last half at mount Monroe, Eisenhower, Pierce, and finally Jackson. There are AMC huts to stop along the way, such as the Lakes Of The Clouds hut, where one may stop and get a bite to eat.

And . . .

A basic Presidential Traverse encompasses almost 9,000 feet (2,700 m) of combined vertical, doubled when difficult downclimbing is included. Adding the principal sub-peaks stretches this to almost 20,000 feet (6,100 m) of up- and down climb in a single traverse.
