An Interesting Tuesday, For Sure

Sagarin's algorithm has Princeton as a two-point favorite Friday night at Dartmouth. Keep in mind Sagarin had Harvard a nine-point pick over the Big Green last week.

Massey Ratings sees a 24-23 Dartmouth win with 51 percent confidence. By way of contrast, Massey had Harvard beating the Big Green last week, 24-17, with 75 percent confidence.

The current weather forecast for Friday night in Hanover per the "hyperlocal" Dark Sky weather app is 38 degrees with two mph wind and no chance of rain.

A year ago the NCAA passed "civic engagement legislation" banning "athletically related activities" on election day. (LINK)

As few of you outside of Virginia may realize, today is election day and as of 9 a.m. I don't know if Dartmouth will have practice today. Given that with Dartmouth and Princeton having a football game on Friday this is a short week it would be unfortunate to miss a day of preparation so it's a pretty good bet there's a push both here and down in Princeton to get a waiver. Either way, there will be a story on BGA Premium tonight because, well, because there's a story on BGA Premium every night ;-)

So what is Civic Engagement day all about? The web platform Fulcrum has a story HERE.

Green Alert Take: Reading that Fulcrum story it would seem there should be no reason why Dartmouth and Princeton football players couldn't move their participation to Saturday, right?

Green Alert Take II: Aren't there three MAC football games on TV tonight? (LINK)

From an NCAA story headlined, Here are the FCS single-season records on the line entering November (LINK):

Fewest team pass yards allowed per completion | Record: 8.88 (min. 100 comp)

In 2008, Yale's defense allowed just 8.88 yards per completion. As offenses have increased the number of passes in recent years, this record at one point looked like it could stand forever. However, two 2021 Ivy League programs, Dartmouth and Princeton, have a chance to break this record.

Dartmouth currently allows 8.75 yards per completion while Princeton allows 8.95 yards per completion. If Dartmouth keeps its pace, the record will go to a new Ivy League program, yet keep an eye out for Princeton down the stretch too

The Athlon Power poll has Princeton at No. 19. Dartmouth does not appear in the ranking.

Green Alert Take: I have a friend who might not have a problem with the rankings but will quibble with the use of the word "poll" if the ranking is the work of one person, which it would appear to be.

Hanover High School will announce its new nickname tomorrow. Marauders, the school nickname since 1951, is verboten because it has "historically been associated with sexual violence, destruction of communities, and the slave trade and colonialism," The local daily reports the five contenders to replace the Marauder (LINK):

Bears, Hawks, Huskies, Maroon Crush and Trailblazer

Green Alert Take: If they don't pick Trailblazers the school right across the street might want to consider it. Kind of goes with The Woods, doncha think? For the record, I've pitched BackPackers to replace Big Green given Dartmouth being on the Appalachian Trail, but it never seemed to get any traction despite the obvious possibility of, on second reference, referring to the "Packers," and the familiarity of the green color with the nickname. I also think Dartmouth North Stars would work well, but I know I'm tilting at windmills.

EXTRA POINT
Question: How do you know it is November?
Answer: Christmas commercials have started on TV.
