EXTRA POINT
As you may know if you've been following along, we bought an EV (that's an "electric vehicle" kids) this summer, and no, it is most assuredly not a Tesla. The car came with a free Sirius radio trial that is about to run out and which I will not be renewing no matter how many emails I get from them. Free FM radio and podcasts will do just fine, thank you very much. And if there's someone else in the car with me conversation is to be encouraged.

The car also has a WiFi hotspot that I don't use and have no interest in paying for. I don't even know if it's active.

To complete the hat trick, I won't be forking over any money for OnStar, which also came with the car. (As an aside, I may throw some duct tape on the little panel with the OnStar call lights on it because I find it annoying that they are there and alway lit up when I don't have the service.)

While I'm not paying for OnStar it's still able to pull back the curtain and send me a monthly email listing how many miles I drove in the previous month, the car's "kW-hr/100 miles," and the "estimated C02 avoided."

To be honest, there's something a little 1984 about that and it makes me uncomfortable. But there is one monthly email it sends along that I actually appreciate. It's kind of creepy that Big Brother can see this, but it's kind of helpful for those of us who don't always pay enough attention:
