Monday, Monday

Wednesday is the traditional Signing Day and over the years BGA Daily has shared dozens and dozens of photos from Signing Day celebrations. With the introduction of the early signing day, however, things changed and last year almost no photos came this way. Like Linus with the Great Pumpkin, I'm hoping my entreaties will bear fruit this year. If you have a photo to share, CLICK HERE. That will address an email to me with the subject line, SigningDay. Then just attach a photo.

To get an idea of what I'm hoping for, check out this page with photos from December signing ceremonies by clicking HERE.)

While Dartmouth was entertaining a group of incoming and potential recruits over the weekend, senior corner Isaiah Johnson was on a recruiting trip of his own to Syracuse. The Orange's SI.com page has a full story about his visit that includes this from the All-Ivy League pick about when he'll make his plans known (LINK):

"I have a firm date. It's my sister's birthday, February 7th. She passed away when I was five years old. That's the same day I signed my high school national intent letter. It's a special day to me and that's when I feel like it's the right time to make my mind up."

Also in the story:

Besides Syracuse, Colorado, Vanderbilt and Louisville are also involved with Johnson's recruitment.

A story in The Dartmouth shares news about efforts to convince the Ivy League to extend graduate eligibility beyond this year. From the story (LINK):

After breaking with tradition in February 2021 to allow senior athletes admitted in graduate programs at their schools to compete for an additional season, the Ivy League Council of Presidents has opted not to extend the same opportunity to other classes impacted by COVID-19.

Former Dartmouth and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Reggie Williams '76, is actually pleased the Super Bowl-bound team has not retired his number. The veteran of two Super Bowls explains why HERE. (Thanks for the link!)

From a Virginia Business story featuring former linebacker Byron Boston '81 headlined, Great responsibility Black business leaders pay it forward (LINK):

“One of the biggest things I can do is to give back,” Boston says, and as head of Dynex, which has a market capitalization of more than $615 million, he’s well-positioned to do that.

A Dartmouth Call to Lead Q&A with the three-year letterwinner includes this (LINK):

“Since I was on the football team, I had a group of friends right off the bat. That was huge. The football team was there for me, and I embraced my teammates. Those guys are still my friends today.”

The Heights, an independent Boston College site, has a story headlined, Remembering Former BC Football Coach Joe Yukica HERE.

Speaking of former Dartmouth coaches, a Chicago Now story (LINK) on Chris Wilkerson being named head coach at Eastern Illinois includes this from the school's most famous football alum, a fellow who played QB for the Dallas Cowboys and now shares the TV booth with Jim Nantz. You may have heard of him. Tony Romo:

“Chris was on Coach Spoo’s staff when I was a student-athlete. I thought very highly of him at that time and have followed his coaching career. He has the football knowledge on both sides of the ball that will enable the EIU program to be successful. He is the right person to lead our program and I’m excited to have him back home as our next head football coach.”

And oh by the way, there's a quarterback mulling a grad transfer offer from Eastern Illinois named Derek Kyler. ;-)

From The Athletic Pulse regarding someone who was VERY happy about the final scores of the two NFL conference championship games yesterday:

A $20 wager turned into $579,000 on Sunday after a fan correctly predicted the outcomes and scores of both conference title games. It was a free $20 bonus bet, too. Nice profit margin, bud.

EXTRA POINT
It was 3 degrees below zero when I walked Griff the Wonder Dog this morning. Yeah, I was hoping it would be warmer.

An hour later it was 5 below.

OK, it's bad enough when it's really cold when you get up, but it's worse when it's that cold and still hasn't yet bottomed out.

The good news: It's supposed to get up to 25 today. The amazing news: It could hit 40 on Wednesday. The not-surprising news: By Saturday night it is expected to be five below again.

Ah winter in Northern New England!
