Sugar Is Sweet

Drew Estrada caught two passes for 14 yards in Baylor’s 21-7 Sugar Bowl win over Ole Miss Saturday night. Although the numbers were modest, the former Dartmouth receiver led the Bears both in catches and yards. He also carried once for one yard.

Despite missing two games with injury Estrada finished with 30 catches for 367 yards and one touchdown this fall. He was third on the team in yards and fourth in catches as a starting wideout.

Green Alert Take: Hard not to think Dartmouth players – as well as other Ivy players who know of him – have been watching with interest how the year has gone for Drew Estrada and found themselves thinking, “That could be me next year.”

Green Alert Take II: Now that the transfer portal genie is out of the Ivy League bottle it won’t go back in.

Speaking of grad transfers, some offers don't exactly get the blood flowing. Others do:

Offensive lineman JP Flores' offers now include Virginia, UConn, FIU, Miami (Ohio), Temple, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Western Michigan, Akron, Buffalo, Texas State and James Madison.

While a growing number of Ivy League football players consider moving up to the FBS, a move down to the FCS worked out pretty well for Brown quarterback EJ Perry, here in an interview in advance of his appearance in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 3.

Former Dartmouth quarterback Jay Fiedler was co-offensive player of the game in the '94 Shrine Bowl before an eight-year career in the NFL.

EXTRA POINT
Here's something about our solar tracker that hadn't occurred to me until the last few days. If I line myself up with it I can figure out exactly where the sun would be . . . if I could actually see it. We've had so many dreary battleship gray days in a row – today is another – I'm just not so sure ol' sol is even up there. The good news is tomorrow is supposed to be "mostly sunny." I'll believe it when I see it. Literally.
