Wednesday News

The Draft Diamonds website features a look at tight end JJ Jones III, who made the All-Ivy League second team last fall as a fifth-year senior at Dartmouth and will play at New Mexico State this year as a grad transfer. In the Draft Diamonds' Q&A, Jones discusses the best advice he ever received (LINK):

"On my team at Dartmouth we had a saying, 'Find a way, make a way.' A lot of times in life there isn’t a clear solution to some problems or even one at all, so some may think to quit. Find a way, make a way represents a positive, but assertive way to keep thinking of solutions while putting them into action. Your mind is a powerful tool and if you can train it to keep looking for solutions or a way out rather than excuses, it will prepare you for the toughest storms life has to offer."

Today's Meet the Freshman entry introduces Patrick Campbell, a 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back from Brookwood High School and Snellville, Ga.:

Green Alert Take: Given that this is part of a series every time I see one of these things I want to change Meet the Freshman to Meet the Freshmen. ;-)

This one-minute video went up a month ago and I just saw it for the first time. It was posted by Brock USA, which produces shock pad systems that go under artificial turf fields and gives Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens another platform to address one of his favorite subjects – player safety.

Gotta admit, I never would have found this one but a loyal reader and former teammate at Dartmouth shared the news that Ryan Clifford, the son of former Big Green wide receiver John Clifford, was selected by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the major league draft out of Crossroads Flex High School in Raleigh, N.C.. He is a Vanderbilt commit. (LINK)

John Clifford played wide receiver at Dartmouth, catching 32 passes in 1992, before finishing his football and baseball careers at Villanova. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 19th round of the 1995 draft and went on to play several years in the minors.

EXTRA POINT
Every Tuesday night in July and August we venture a few miles south for concerts on the Fairlee town common. It was rainy and pretty miserable for the first show of the summer and lightning concerns shifted the second inside the town hall. Last night, finally, the weather was absolutely perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the bluegrass picking and singing of a veteran group called Cardigan Mountain Tradition. It was the perfect small-town, New England summer evening!
