Still More Grad Transfer Stuff

More from the Dartmouth grad transfer news ticker, starting with former All-Ivy League tight end JJ Jones . . .

And . . .

From the SB Nation Boston College football website (LINK):

Two more transfers arrive to BC with some unknowns surrounding them. (Jirhe) Love is a 6-0, 195 corner who played at Towson. He appeared in 22 career games over a three years as a reserve corner and on special teams. (John) Pupel is 6-1, 200 and previously played at Dartmouth, originally from Michigan. He played in all three seasons and made 59 tackles last year.

And . . .

The word out of Storrs is that former All-Ivy League offensive lineman Jake Guidone, who had been out with a knee problem, returned to the practice field yesterday for the UConn Huskies.

And . . .

The Houston Texans have released their first depth chart with Drew Estrada '20, who played last year at Baylor, sharing the third line at one wide receiver spot:

Former Dartmouth linebackers coach Joe Moglia's story is headed for the silver screen. From a Deadline story headlined Todd Robinson Preps Sports Drama ‘4th & Goal’ About Corporate Exec-Turned-College Football Coach Joe Moglia For Strong Studios (LINK):

Strong Studios will develop and produce a feature based on the biographical novel 4th & Goal: One Man’s Quest to Recapture His Dream, examining the life of corporate executive, author and football coach Joe Moglia.

The 2012 book penned by New York Times bestselling author and Forbes contributing editor Monte Burke follows Moglia from his roots growing up in a rough-and-tumble neighborhood in New York City to his rise through the high school and college football ranks to become the defensive coordinator at Dartmouth, and his dream of becoming a head coach of a college football team.

Moglia coached at Dartmouth from 1981-83. Here's his 1983 bio from the media guide:

Regarding the movie project Moglia had this to say per the Deadline story

“I am extremely grateful for the family, friends and colleagues that have played an integral role in my journey. Even with all of the twists and turns along the way, I wouldn’t change anything,” commented Moglia. “I look forward to working with Kyle Cerminara and the Strong Studios team to create a special movie that will hopefully inspire people of all ages to never give up on their dreams but to understand that sometimes it takes time…a lot of time and patience.”

The Ivy League media day is Monday and the league has announced which two players will join their head coaches for each school. Dartmouth will be represented by quarterback Nick Howard and defensive lineman Shane Cokes.

Green Alert Take: Fingers crossed that the Ivy League coaches actually name names during their spiels. As someone who will be writing detailed previews of each conference school it would be a huge help!

Speaking of which, BGA Premium previews kick off Friday night with a look at New Hampshire. Sacred Heart is on deck for Saturday night and Valparaiso is in the hole for Sunday night. Ivy League previews will begin Monday with Brown and continue in alphabetical order, finishing with Yale on Aug. 21, the day of the first Dartmouth practice. If you haven't yet signed up for BGA Premium, don't wait. CLICK HERE to learn more, renew your subscription or sign up for the first time. (Please be advised that 2021 subscriptions run out this week.)

EXTRA POINT
When the podcast I was listening to on this morning's hike finished I found myself thinking, and not for the first time, that if only I had been listening to language lessons on my hundreds and hundreds of trips up and down the mountain I might be fluent today in whatever language I had chosen.

Alas, my iPod isn't filled with language lessons but rather a smorgasbord of podcasts. Here's my current playlist with descriptions borrowed from their websites or other online sources. Maybe there's one that will catch your eye (or ear ;-).

Criminal: An award-winning podcast about true crime. Stories of people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle.

On Point: From the economy and health care to politics and the environment – and so much more – On Point host Meghna Chakrabarti speaks with newsmakers and real people.

Fresh Air: Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues hosted by Terry Gross.

This American Life: Journalism that’s built around plot. In other words, stories! Our favorite sorts of stories have compelling people at the center of them, funny moments, big feelings, surprising plot twists, and interesting ideas. Like little movies for radio.

• Freakonomics: Explores the Hidden Side of Everything.

Unsung Science: The untold stories of mind-blowing achievements in science and tech with host David Pogue. Creators reveal their inspirations and roadblocks they encountered in bringing their breakthroughs to the public.

Tony Kornheiser Show: A topical, daily talk show that starts with sports and quickly moves into politics, current events, entertainment and, really, whatever happens to be on Tony’s mind.

Two Writers Slinging Yang: In-depth, no-holds-barred conversation with a writer on writing.

Lions247: The latest on Nittany Lions football, recruiting and more - all things PSU.
