Elsewhere

Here's your weekend wrap:

Princeton 14, Cornell 3
The Tigers bracketed first-half touchdown passes of 33 and 77 yards from Blake Stenstrom around a Big Red field goal in a game that featured a scoreless second half. Princeton (4-3, 3-1 Ivy) managed just 24 yards rushing but got 299 through the air from Stenstrom, who completed 20-of-32 throws. Princeton and Harvard are now the only one-loss teams remaining in the Ivy League race. Cornell (3-4, 2-2) quarterback Jameson Wang was 26-for-42 for 234 yards with one interception. He also led both teams with 45 rushing yards on 10 carries. The game drew 5,525 to Schoellkopf Field.

Yale 35, Columbia 7
The Bulldogs dominated on the ground (225 yards to 74), through the air (234 yards to 120) and on the scoreboard while winning for the fourth time in their last five games. Yale (4-3, 2-2 Ivy) quarterback Nolan Grooms connected on 26-of-32 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown and ran for 89 yards and a second score. Joe Green, in his second start for the Lions (2-5, 0-4), was 16-for-32 for 120 yards with one touchdown. Attendance was 5,422 at Yale Bowl.

Friday Night . . .

Brown 30, Penn 26
The long-struggling Brown defense recorded three interceptions, with the last in the end zone in the final minute allowing the Bears (4-3, 2-2) to beat the Quakers for the second year in a row. Jake Willcox completed 26-of-37 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns and carried nine times for 40 yards to lead Brown. The Quakers' Aidan Sayin was 32-of-55 for 322 yards and two touchdowns but the hat trick of interceptions proved costly. Jared Richardson, who caught 17 passes for Penn (5-2, 2-2) last week, had 12 grabs for 122 and a touchdown in this one. A crowd of 4,735 watched the nationally televised game.

ELSEWHERE  . . .

Rhode Island 34, New Hampshire  28 (OT)
Max Brosmer completed 41-of-60 passes for 430 yards and two touchdowns without an interception but it wasn't enough to keep UNH (4-4, 2-3 CAA) from its second overtime loss of the season. Rhode Island (5-4, 3-3) won the game on a one-yard touchdown run in overtime after New Hampshire had missed a field goal in the top half of the extra session.  New Hampshire's four losses have come by a total of 16 points.

Bucknell 49, Colgate 34
Bucknell (3-5, 1-3 Patriot) used a 27-point second period explosion to put a halt to a three-game Colgate (3-5, 1-2) winning streak. Bison quarterback Ralph Rucker threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns and Bucknell added 206 yards and three scores on the ground. Colgate quarterback Michael Brescia, who had missed the previous three games (including the win over Dartmouth), was 21-for-35 for 184 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted twice. He also ran for 53 yards and two touchdowns in front of 4,276 in Hamilton, N.Y..

EXTRA POINT
Boston tied a record high yesterday when it hit 81 degrees. It was less than half that in these parts this morning and we actually had our first snowflakes of the season. Gotta admit, I feel a little like a chameleon on a plaid shirt right now. ;-)
