More Details

A brief story on the High School OT website doesn't offer much about new Dartmouth defensive line recruit Peter Owolabi, but it does share this interesting tidbit about the well-traveled, 6-foot-3, 272-pound player who will be at Asheville School in North Carolina this fall (LINK):

Owolabi is from Canada and previously played at Mt. Zion Prep in Maryland.

A subsequent web search turned up a piece about how football played a huge role in Owolabi's decision  to leave the True North. Owolabi told the writer (LINK):

“I’m originally from Canada. Ottawa, Ontario, so I transferred (to Mt. Zion Prep) just for the opportunity to play football. My mom said if you’re serious about football, show me you want it.”

The story, posted prior to his decision to go to Asheville, explains why he is moving on again:

After making the jump from Canada to the United States, Owolabi made a name for himself at Mt. Zion, a prep school in Maryland, but the news came down from the top just a few days ago that football will be postponed indefinitely beginning in 2024, so now Peter is setting his eyes on opportunities with other programs.

From a FanNation story headlined, 2024 North Carolina A&T Football Preview (LINK):

North Carolina A&T ranked second in the CAA in passing defense, holding opponents to only 178.4 yards per game. The secondary is expected to be the strength of the Aggies' defense once again as three starters return next season. All-American cornerback Karon Prunty leads the unit after earning All-Conference honors in back-to-back seasons. Safeties Ty Williams Jr. and David Laney combined for 72 total tackles and five tackles for loss last season. Former Dartmouth safety Cam Maddox is also expected to compete for a starting role after seeing action in 22 games for the Big Green.

Maddox '24, played three seasons at Dartmouth with 33 tackles, six passes defended and one interception. He'll be tested early this fall with NC A&T traveling to FBS Wake Forest for its Aug. 29 opener. The Aggies joined CAA football last year.

The Dartmouth has a remembrance of Josie Harper, the former Big Green athletic director and women's lacrosse coach who died recently at age 81. Among those reminiscing about Harper is Amy Patton, who succeeded her on the lacrosse sidelines. (LINK)

EXTRA POINT
Ah, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat when you have a 40-year-old vehicle and absolutely no mechanical expertise.

The annual West River Westies VW bus jamboree is this weekend in southern Vermont. We've become regulars at the event and have been looking forward to spending the weekend investigating other buses and tubing down the West River. But that all depends on our '84 VW poptop camper, which decided recently it didn't want to start anymore despite spending some quality time with the VW Whisperer.

We finally got the bus going yesterday and if it starts today we'll be on our way to join upwards of 100 other VW buses by midday.

If there's no BGA update until Monday morning, you'll know we made it to the campground (where there is no WiFi or cell signal). That would be the thrill of victory.

If you bring up this page tomorrow and there is an update? That would be the agony of defeat.

Stay tuned.
