Ahead Of Signing Day - Two More

With two names going public earlier this week and now yet  another two, the Dartmouth recruiting class as we know it (or think we know it ;-) is at 25. Here are the latest additions:

Corban Hall is a 6-foot-3, 224-pound tight end from Charlotte Christian School and Waxhaw, N.C. Per recruiting services, he has an impressive offer sheet that in addition to Cornell includes Coastal Carolina, Troy, Miami, Marshall, Army, Navy Bryant, Campbell, Charleston Southern and Davidson among others.

Over the past two seasons he caught 40 passes for 725 yards and eight touchdowns. That's a healthy 18.1 yards per reception. He had a long catch of 68 yards as a junior and 46 last fall. A a senior he added 24 tackles, three sacks and five hurries.

There's no graphic up yet and I couldn't find any statistics, but also joining the Big Green is 6-5, 255 tight end Mateusz Nycz of Marmion Academy and Loyola, Ill. Nycz was the CCL/ESCC Red Division offensive player of the year and chose Dartmouth over an offer from Dayton.

Per a story carried by the Chicago Tribune, Nycz grew two inches between his junior and senior seasons . . .  and he might still be growing. The story notes that his grandfather is 6-foot-11 as is his mother's uncle.

Green Alert Take: Apropos of nothing, next fall Dartmouth will have two players named Matisse and a Meteusz. Still, it won't be as confusing as having three Camerons on the team and another one on the way next fall.

Green Alert Take II: Check back tomorrow for a full list of Dartmouth commitments.

Coming off a strong performance in the East-West Shrine Game (LINK), former Dartmouth DB Tyron Herring is the subject of an in-depth scouting report. Per the report (LINK):

In 2023, Herring started all 12 games, totaling 42 tackles, two for loss, three interceptions, five passes defended, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. His performance earned him an All-CAA Honorable Mention. In 2024, Herring continued to be a solid performer for Delaware, starting in 11 games and recording 30 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and three passes defended. His production and consistency throughout his college career have positioned him as a prospect with potential at the next level.

And the bottom line on Herring, who spent two years at Delaware after earning his Dartmouth degree (LINK):

Tyron Herring is a long, instinctive cornerback with the tools to excel in specific schemes. While his limitations in man coverage and run defense may cap his ceiling, his zone coverage skills and potential for special teams contributions give him a chance to compete for a spot on an NFL roster. With further development and the right system fit, Herring could become a valuable depth player in a secondary.

EXTRA POINT

I once had the chance to do a private tour of a college football stadium and the fellow who was showing me around explained how difficult it was get a major gift from a donor to fix up the substructure that kept the stadium from collapsing. Important? Absolutely. But when you give a seven-figure donation you sort of want to see where your money went, as in a new video board or glitzy press box.

I was reminded of that story after I woke up yesterday to a chilly house. A look at the thermostat and subsequent trip down to the basement confirmed what I suspected. The oil burner was sitting there, quiet and forlorn. A few hours after we called the service center, a couple of technicians arrived, and after a little poking around diagnosed the problem. The bottom line: Unlike the stadium donor, the fix wasn't seven figures, but we have virtually nothing to show for it. That said, it was one degree outside and 70 degrees inside when I got up this morning so I can't complain. Not too much, at least. ;-)
