Recruiting for the next Dartmouth class is already happening and Danny O'Dea, the Big Green's former running backs coach who now oversees recruiting offers this helpful advice for high schoolers hoping to land in The Woods:

And O'Dea reposted this, labeling it "Quality Advice!"

Editor's Note: "Slides," as you probably guessed, are open-ended footwear, like shower shoes.

Another sign that recruiting is heating up well before the weather is (heating up, that is ;-) a graphic put out by Dartmouth announcing dates and signup for the Sammy McCorkle Football Camps. No longer about spending a few days on a college campus swimming, eating hot dogs and making new friends while learning a little more about blocking and route running, football camps these days are essentially tryouts in front of college coaches.

It's the weekend and you have the time. Here's a song from the upcoming Band of Heathens album Take the Cake. In the white cowboy hat is former Dartmouth linebacker Gordi Quist '02, one of the front men for the Austin-based band. Two seats to his right is former DB Trevor Nealon '02, the band's keyboard player.

And if you enjoyed that, here's a terrific live performance of Hurricane that the Band of Heathens did in Nashville last year.

EXTRA POINT
As a silly gift, Mrs. BGA stuffed a "hardwood trail whistle" in my stocking at Christmas. It was silly because we joke occasionally about a hiker we see on my regular trail who wears bear bells to ward off attacks. (I've hiked that trail more than a thousand times and have never seen a bear. Mrs. BGA did see one on her own hike one time, but when it spotted her it spooked and quickly ran off.)

But I digress.

The wooden trail whistle sits on our second-floor railing and I've taken to blowing it loudly when Mrs. BGA is downstairs and I'm headed down the steps. She continues to laugh when she hears it, but I'm taking bets on how soon she decides giving it to me was a bad idea and makes it disappear. ;-)
