Monday, Monday

What They Did & What They Said went up on BGA Overtime last night HERE. Come back tonight for Your Mileage May Vary.

#

The Daily Pennsylvanian has a story about the Dartmouth-Penn football game HERE. The Dartmouth has a story that was listed as being posted HERE, but as of this writing it is not available.

#

Paul Justafan Covers the Ivies has its usual insightful insights about the week's results HERE.

#

Green Alert Take: For those of you new around here who are unhappy about Dartmouth being listed at fourth while it is tied for the Ivy League lead, the second determinant in the standings is overall record. Then current streak.
#

Leah Lowe has a very nice piece headlined Before Yale Chose Tony Reno, His Players Did that she introduces this way (LINK):

Tony Reno won five Ivy League championships and more games than all but one coach in Yale history. The better measure of what he built may be found in the people who kept choosing him — including his own son.

The Brown Daily has a column headlined Brown should rethink its rivalry with Harvard — Dartmouth is the obvious place to start. From the column (LINK):

Harvard and Yale make each other a clear choice by calling their matchup “The Game.” In New York, Cornell and Columbia have an existing rivalry known as the “Empire State Bowl,” making good use of their geographic proximity. South of New York, Penn and Princeton have not only proximity but also the letter “P” to battle over in the mid-Atlantic . . .

And this:

Brown and Dartmouth are similar in many ways, such as their small student bodies, undergraduate focus and similarly sized endowments.

Tongue in cheek, the writer includes this:

Brown and Dartmouth are the only Ivies fighting for the earth-toned colors. Our woodsy mascots could even inspire a fun name for this rivalry.

Green Alert Take: Once more with feeling: Brown-Dartmouth should be The Tussle. Why? Click HERE to learn about Tuss McLaughry's importance at both schools and on the national scene.

You read in this space last week about former Dartmouth edge rusher Marques White '23 continuing his football career at SMU. In Saturday's 25-16 win over Boston College he posted three sacks, a forced fumble and seven tackles overall. From a Dallas Morning News story (LINK):

"I thought defensively, start to finish, it was our most complete game," (SMU coach Rhett) Lashlee said. "Marques was awesome. We affected the quarterback."

And . . .

The graduate student is in his eighth season of college football, beginning his career at Dartmouth in 2019 and transferring to McNeese State and UMass before arriving at SMU.

Medical redshirts and COVID-19 extended his career.

"It's been a journey to say the least," White said. "I'm just grateful for the opportunity of finally having a shot at the Power Four level."

Yankee standout Ben Rice is the subject of a story in The Athletic by former Dartmouth teammate Clark Gilmore, who now pitches in the Savannah Bananas organization. Find the story HERE.

EXTRA POINT
Whether our Vermont hillside home is in the Northeast Kingdom depends on who you ask. While most probably put us just outside the NEK, we've discovered not everyone agrees. Click HERE if you dare to learn a little more about our uninvited and incredibly annoying house guests.
